Hey everyone! I've been really sick with chest infection and will have missed the gym for almost 2 weeks. Im SO frustrated cause i was FINALLY 'on a roll' with exercise and enjoying it and now i've lost it!

Will my fitness levels have decreased a lot? And all the work i've done toning my arms will have gone to waste? My first netball game is soon and i need to be uber fit!

i don't know about two weeks. i think you will feel out of shape the first couple days back, but it should be okay. I was resting for most of last week. monday's run was way harder than today's.

2 weeks is not enough time to destroy or lost your fitness work.
But there are a little bit difference must be mentions in body weight.
When you join exercise again then you must do hard work out for a some days...

I would say listen to your body and go easy the first couple of times you return to the gym. You can't rush healing or fitness.

Lost your motivation, very possibly. But no, not out of shape. Take it slow, you're body is still in recovery mode, and build back up to it lest you get sick again. You cahn doo eet!

Due to my hectic life (including lots of business travel), I pretty often go at least 7-10 days without a workout every 6-8 week period. Generally the first day back after being out 10 days I aim for about 80% of my usual routine, and that's all the "easing back in" I do.

However, with the infection you may have a longer road to getting back on track. Just listen to your body -- but don't get discouraged if the first couple time you go back your body complains a lot.

I had to take a month off of working out when I had pneumonia last year. And I took it easy for the first week and then I was back to my pre-sick times for my runs and swims. Don't worry about it, just plan on taking it easy at first. The rest will come back when it's ready.

Taking a break may be a good thing for your body. Professional athletes do it intentionally to boost performance, it's called "tapering" - a Google search should set your mind at rest Smile

At a slightly extreme end, I had Rotavirus for 6 months a couple of years ago. It only took 2-3 weeks to be back up to speed on the bike once I was recovered.

Smile thanks guys, feeling alot better about things now. I went to the gym this arvo and could still run the same distance, just did it a little slower. I was thinking my fitness would have dropped more than is has. Cant wait to smash out another gym sesh tommorow and try do how i was before i got sick! - my motivation is actually pretty high!
