Okay, got a question for the low carb guru's (anyone who believes that pufa's and grains lead to chronic inflammation and insulin is the fat storage hormone).
What type of fat loss can be expected if your daily intake of carbs is less than 50g? Say you're eating these macro's 40% protein 50% fat 10% carbs or, cause I can't make up my mind 30% protein 60% fat and 10% carbs. This of course is not a permanent change and may only be done in cycles cause let's face it, sometimes you just gotta have a sweet potato.
Say for example (I am using my stats, lol) that your BMR is 1600 and your RMR (sedentary for ease of calculations) is 1900 (and of course I plan on being way more active than that and doing crossfit/tabata type of exercise which complicates the fat burning equation even more).
I am curious to see by limiting my carbs will I burn more fat than the typical calories in calories out equation for weight loss due to metabolic processs and the inherently pesty hormones that are stored in fat.
Thanks so much!

I personally find that I loose more with the low carb then with the calories in vs out. And I am much less hungry. I have just started doing the carb cycling. My carb intake on low carb days (5 days a week) are less then 50, I try to stick to around 30. My carbs for high carb days (the other 2 days) are 250. It's a big trick that body builders and such use to build muscle and keep the fat off. It's been going great so far, and the bonus, I get to have that sweet potato, helps me stay on track knowing that I wont have to be giving everything up everyday. Its best to get most of your carbs from natural sources, I miss fruits as much as anything when I am doing low carb, so the high carb days are the days I can go a little wild with it

You cannot (and should not) lose more than 1-2 lb of fat per week. You might be losing more weight initially but it will be mostly water. You will be losing muscles too, you will be losing less muscle mass on high protein diet. It is not that you will be losing more fat on low carb diet, it is just that if you are insulin resistant and have issues with metabolism, you will not be losing weight on a high carb diet at all. If you are not insulin resistant lowering the amount of calories might be enough for you. I..e. It is not that carbs are bad, it is how much your body can burn and still keep burning fat. Your body will not switch to burning fat until you burned all available carbs, both from your food and from what is stored in your muscles and liver. That is on any diet, low carb or not. On a low carb diet you just don't have this additional carb load on daily basis. Also it is quite possible to eat too much protein on high protein diet and not lose weight as it is also getting converted into glucose by your body. So it is a matter of balance and what your particular metabolic problem is. If you are very active, you will also be able to tolerate more carbs.

I was not looking for advice on how to diet, but more rather on the science behind it. Everyone has their own belief system, I've done the research and I do what works best for my body. I don't log everything I eat and I am not anywhere near 100% but I am working on it. I am tweeking my percentages to see what works best for me. Thanks for the responses, I appreciate that you took the time to try and answer my question.
