Hey ya'll! I am finally to a point where I think I can actually ...hopefully...maybe run a 5K. I've NEVER been a runner. I have absolutely no idea how to even start to train for a 5K. ...but I have made up my mind to get this done! There is a March of Dimes 5K here at the end of April. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, or opinions that might help?

The "Couch-to-5k" program has helped a lot of people finish a 5k.
You can get there from here.

Yes to Couch to 5k. Here's the link: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Basically if you want to be as successful as possible, you should start by committing yourself to walking/jogging 3 times a week consistently. The program is set up that way. You should leave a day between runs to allow your body to recover & avoid injury. If you attempt a particular session & can't complete it, just repeat the next time you train until you do get it before moving on. You've got plenty of time.

You can also avoid injury by doing some strength training to get your legs good & strong.

Congrats on wanting to push yourself out of your comfort zone! I started running at just over 300 lbs a year & a half ago & I've got several races under my belt already, & currently training for a 7k in March. You can do it!!!
