Hello, I'm at university at the moment and am not so much on a diet but more getting into a fitness regime, im following a running book called 'running made easy' with a 10 week plan that will hopefully get me running 3 miles. If anyone's done running or are doing similar fitness regimes id love to share and hopefully get a bit more motivated to run in the winter whether than i am at the moment.

as I said, the best encouragement comes from yourself when you will see that you are making progress and actually start to FEEL better in your own body. Nothing beats that. I would say just start small and stick to a routine no matter how short....even 10 minutes a day at the beginning is fine. You have to remember 2 things:

1. Momentum is key.....so build momentum for the first 30 days or so.
2. Any habit takes about 3-4 weeks to form. So you just have to hit your practice every single day (no matter how crappy you feel)....and your sub-conscious will create barriers and it is going to be difficult but you have to get through the critical first 3-4 weeks everyday. Once you form a habit....you will be well on your way to making a big ifference.

I too have just started a running routine! I warm up for 3 minutes-walk @ 3.8 for 3 minutes-run @6 to 6.5 for 3 minutes... and I do this for 30 minutes on my treadmill! I feel great afterwards and have already noticed after one week that I have alot more stamina during the last run interval! I am slowly changing my eating habits and noticing suttel changes in my body and mind! I could use some buddies as well, we can do this together...

I stopped smoking and started walking. 2years later, I'm running 5k. stick with it. I seem to do better on the treadmill instead of the street. I was getting shin splints.

Anyone using the Fitbit Flex or similar devices?
I have a bodymedia fit and love it. It really helps keep you motivated and focused. It does allow you to sync with a heart rate monitor, but I find it has been a good tool regardless.
