I see so many people asking how to upload pictures to the forum, groups and to their journals.

It's really quite simple, once you know how to do it.

Here's a little tutorial.

I know it looks like there is a lot of steps, but it's really not that bad. Do it a few times, and you will do this without even using this tutorial!

First, I need to explain that in order to post pictures here on Fatsecret, the image needs to be available online, as Fatsecret generally don't host images. There IS a group that can be used for this, but I would rather recommend that you use Imgur, which is a free photo sharing website. There is no sign-up needed, it's completely anonymous and free. Also, it's easy to use. What else could you possibly ask for?

1. Go to www.imgur.com

2. Upload the picture you want to post (using the "computer" button) or paste/enter the link (using the "web" button) on the website. IMPORTANT! Before you hit the "Start Upload" button, check the "Edit Your Images" option. You will need this in a moment.

Your image will now upload and will be shown in an image editor.

3. In the upper right corner, you can change the size of the image. Change the largest number to 480 (if the largest number is less than 480, just leave it untouched). The other number will automatically change to keep aspect ratio. This ensures that the image will look nice in your journal or forum post.

4. Click "Save" at the top of the web page.

Your size-adjusted image will now save and be ready to use.

5. At the right side of the Imgur web page you will find a number of links. The second one (saying "Direct Link" ) is the one you need. Right-click the link underneath, and choose copy.

You now have your photo ready to paste into your forum post or journal.

6. Go to www.fatsecret.com, and go to the place where you want to write your text - a forum, journal, group or anywhere else.

7. Write your text, and put your cursor where you want the image to be inserted.

8. Click the little icon. The text editor will now insert a text saying "[img ][ /img]"

9. Put your cursor in between the middle brackets, right click and choose "paste". The link you copied from Imgur will now be inserted between the brackets.

The finished product should look like this: [img ]http://www.x.com/example.jpg[ /img]

NOTE! If you don't see the little icons (there is also other icons there), then click "advanced" and they should appear.

10. You're done!
Now cheer in glee over the success of posting an image and bask in the thought of possibly burning another 5 calories (or less) doing it! Smile

I hope this helps. If anyone feels that this needs further clarification, then please comment. I would like to make this available for everyone so that it becomes easier to do this, also for those who are not born with a keyboard in their hands....

I hope this is useful.

Thanks, Kingkeld, for bringing it to the top. Now if I just get some photos of myself - mostly, I'd rather be behind the camera!

But the photo of me I have uploaded as my avatar is from a fun day - what is not seen in the little image we can use, is that I'm petting a baby tiger. His coat was much more coarse than I had imagined...

But anyway - thanks for the instructions. Joyce

<edit - orig photo was me and the tiger>

So I've figured out how to post a picture. However, I pulled mine off of facebook. I need to make them smaller. I was told to edit and change the largest number to 480. Where do I do this?

Well good luck with those challenges. There must be a good reason you feel you can't have just one of the carb, lower calorie beers. I admire your discipline and determination.

weigh in
Good luck! I weigh in every day which has to stop. It is too easy to get caught up in the excitement of seeing the scale drop so much in a week-that is because of water weight I am sure.
