The only supplement I would recommend is whey protein if you're exercising. All you need is one shake within an hour of finishing your workout to help recovery & minimize loss of muscle mass.
Everything else can be handled strictly with a good diet.

I don't think there is a safe drug out there that will help you lose weight. I started losing weight becasue of my knees as well and managed to lose 30 pound since July just by controlling my eating. I try to keep to about 75% to 80% of my RDI. Now I can walk again without pain, stairs are still difficult but getting better and I'm starting to exercise as I have hit a plataue. Biking or swimming are recommended as being easy on the knees. I am 54 years old and have a thyroid condition that slows my metabolism so if it worked for me it should work for you.

you could also use a Pedal Exerciser you can use it for your arms or feet (while sitting). Or just excerise your upper body move your arms or use weights
trust me a week after you start excerising you will start feeling better physical/mental. Go for it>

If you log every bite of food you eat that will be all the kick start you need. If you don't know what your recommended daily intake (RDI) should be, use a couple of different online calculators to help you decide & shoot for staying at or under it consistently. Personally I like WebMD's Personal Diet Evaluator.
Weight loss is 80% diet...get that under control & the weight will be flying off. Don't put off exercise, there is SOMETHING you can do. I started out walking 15 min a day 3 days a week because severe back pain wouldn't allow me to do any more at first. The longer I stuck to it, the easier it got & I'm getting ready to run my 2nd 10k in a few days. Get moving!

Thanks guys a great help and good to have the support. I might think about getting an exercise bike for the time being and go from there. I wish I had a pool close that was easy to go to on a regular basic. Being a Shift Worker makes things very hard at times... My mums side of the family has a thyroid condition genetically so maybe I should look into being tested for that as well..

I have an under active thyroid but have treatment and when I make the effort to lose weight I do. Whenever I cut out even just the junk and get mobile that drops off. I have started very slowly on fs just checking in everyday, getting used to the site and taking on board all the information and interaction. My buddies have been patient with me as I have not made any impact on the scales yet, because I have been getting the head talked into it. This week has been the first week I have made the effort regarding food intake and already I want to pick up on the exercise finally. In my youth I was almost fanatical about sport and to this day still get immense pleasure from exercise but have just lost the will. Maybe my approach might work for you, I.e. getting the hang of the site, building up your recording and journalism. Good luck. Sazy
