Depression is killing my motivation, and my lack of motivation is making me depressed. What a viscious cycle. My work life is spiritually draining, yet I am in search for something new. My home life is draining but I cant afford to go anywhere else. My support system? Ya not really, "You dont need to lose weight" blah blah blah. Right.Doubt I am 5'3 and 127 pounds. Come on. I should be the most 115 and I am having such a struggle.Crying or Very sad Viscious cycle.

Depression is hard. What helped for me is look at one day and one meal at the time and keeping workouts separate. If I failed at one of them I could still be successful at the others without that day or week being ruined. Also if your mood is affected by the number on the scale: dont weigh yourself! Go for longer periods without weighing but stay on track as it is all about staying on and climbing back up when you fall down to get to your goal.

I think sunshine girl is right. Why do you want to lose? Because a chart tells you that you should based on your height? Baloney. There are lots of factors that go into determining what is a "healthy weight" and they aren't the same for everyone.

Why do you want to lose? What do you want to lose? Once you determine what your goals are, you ultimately, you can only rely on yourself to accomplish them. Sites like this give a lot of support, but in the end, it's only words (and sometimes, though not always, wisdom). You can count on you and you alone. As a person who struggled with depression, I've found that knowing I'm achieving my goals, and that I'm doing it on my own meaning only I can take the credit is very empowering and uplifting. I know that's easy for me to say only 6 pounds away from my goal, but I can tell you the view from the top is nothing short of breathtaking. And you can get here too.

I wish you luck, and I'll add you to my prayer list, if you don't mind.

Exercise is a good way to conquer depression. It boosts metabolism, burns fat, generally makes you a happier, healthier human. Maybe you don't need to lose weight, but, just get fit. Start walking or jogging and add a few weights. 3 to 4 times a week should be a great start. I wish you success and happiness.

Weight is just a number. It is how you feel about yourself that matters the most. I myself suffer from bi-polar disorder and completely understand about both the lack of motivation and the struggle of staying motivated.
What I have found to work about 75% of the time is to set yourself a reward list. Make small achievable goals and record your emotional state when you have met those goals, or what has held you back from them.
Deppression is a disorder, do not let it define who you are.
Good luck and take care of yourself.

I hope i am wrong but first your weight is appropriate for your height .
BMI is fine, and even then14 pounds is nothing if that is how much you think you are over weight.
I think you might have a little self image issue so I apologize if I am wrong but I invite you to check your BMI and your body fat before you think you are over weight.

ellenturner is absolutly right. I am having a lot of personal issues myself, but I do overcome them when I go for a walk or go to my gym. It makes me feel empowered, and healthy and just the simple fact that I am doing something for ME!! Add me to your buddy list if ya like, we can help each other out Wink

I used to suffer greatly from depression. At it's root it comes from intense self-focus (usually negative) and self-critique. I would go so far as to say at one point I "hated" myself. I find that I start to fall into this zone when I start thinking "me, me, me" thoughts (critical ones...not 'I am so wonderful' ones). Something that changes my mind and mood immediately is forcing myself to focus and do good or helpful things for others, and take my focus off myself.
Try this: Sit and make a list of things you could do for friends and loved ones that, if you actually did them, would totally make their day! Then, pick one off the list every day and try to do it for them. Initially, make it simple things that can be done fairly quick in order to get quick returns. As you start to get sold on this, turn your attention to more complex tasks you can surprise loved ones with. Just try it...okay?
