I never realized how quickly calories add up! I thought I was eating decent portions and decnet food choices, until I logged it. I think we forget about the "add-ons" with creamers and condiments! Good to see to help make the change I suppose! Very Happy

Welcome to FS! Keeping a food diary and re-learning portion sizes is an important step on the way to success. If you already eat decent food you might not need to make huge changes. Good luck Smile

No kidding! So many people will post something about how they can't lose weight no matter what they do...and then you'll see that they haven't logged their food. It's amazing how much you learn just from paying attention! I was exercising and eating well before I started logging everything but then I realized I was essentially eating back my exercise calories by not watching my portions, allowing myself an extra cookie, etc. Good luck! First thing I had to learn to control was the creamer in my coffee and some of the ice tea drinks I was consuming almost daily. Its an eye opener

Speaking of the extras. I read an article recently on how the portion sizes on labels could be unrealistic.

One of the examples was coffee creamer where the "serving size" is a teaspoon and most people use two tablespoons.

The worst was "cooking spray" the "serving size" was 1/3 second spray and they claimed zero fat. But if you spray for 10 seconds (oh like enough to keep your food from sticking) there was actually several grams of fat.

I completely agree. My weight loss is the most consistent and works the best when I have a food diary. When I don't keep track of what I eat, usually i eat too much but only so the weight creeps back on, almost unnoticably...then I wake one day 20 lbs heavier, and I'm like OMG WTF???!!!

LOL I know a lot of you can relate. Being aware of everything you put into your body really helps you to make the right choices as well. When I see what I am eating, I am sooooo much more inclined to make healthier choices!1
