I am staying at a steady weight and I know that I'm not losing because of what I'm eating. I would like to keep my calories around 1500 and see if that helps me lose. Does anyone have any suggestions of what you did to cut some of your carbs and/or calories? I know my carbs are super high, but I have a really hard time not eating them. And my husband, he's so great, and he does the grocery shopping a lot and makes supper because he's home during the day (and a really picky, non-veggie eater), but then he makes carb-y, high calorie foods. What do I do without breaking the budget by having to make 2 meals? Thanks!!

Ask him to bring home some vegetables and cook them up as side dishes.

When he's having pasta for dinner, he can have a big serving of pasta. You can have a small serving and a lot of veggies.

I don't know anything about the type of diet you say you are on, but you are eating a gigantic amount of carbs and a lot of them are simple, sugary carbs that are unhealthy no matter what diet you follow -- and may inhibit your weight loss even if you cut back to 1500 calories per day.

It's great that your husband does the shopping and cooking -- but maybe there's a way you can work together as a team to plan out a weeks worth of dinner menus that focus on lean proteins (like chicken breasts) with the carbs as a side dish. If he doesn't like vegetables he probably won't know how to shop for them either, which gives you two choices: 1) have him buy you some boxes of premium brand (like Bird's Eye deluxe) frozen veggies -- green beans, peas, artichokes, broccoli -- which eliminate the problem of having him choose good produce; or 2) make your own quick trip to a produce stand or farmer's market and buy your veggies for the week. Either way, it's simple to throw these in the micro and fill up half your plate with veggies, while your family eats the carbs.

I have found the key to me cutting down on the bread, pasta, etc was to buy high quality produce. The gocery bill has gone up which is hard to stomach but it's working. Changed bread to Pep Farms light oatmeal which even the kids like and wrap alot of things in flatout light wraps (and only use half a one). Pasta is tough and I splurge nouw and then but only eat a cup with a big salad and balsamic vinegar.

Add veggies - they are more filling than simple carb. Then add fat to up your calories - olive oil, butter, coconut oil.

You don't need to cut anything out completely, just try to make the portions sizes smaller, especially for high calorie foods. It also helps to eat slowly. Put your fork/food down between each bite and chew more. It may also help to chug a glass or two of water (or calorie free drink) before starting to eat a meal. Have your husband pick up a head of lettuce, cut it up one night and keep it in the fridge for an easy side dish to go with whatever your having for dinner throughout the week.

I am not sure if you are already doing this, but try to stop eating about 3-4 hours before you go to bed. I did that and it helped me get off of a plateau.

I took me about two weeks to get used to eating a smaller amount of calories. I felt like I was starving myself, but I stuck to it. Eventually it became easier and now my body is used to eating 1200-1500 calories a day.

Good luck!

Can you do yogurt? A friend recommended to me plain yogurt with splenda mixed in. Maybe try that with some berries. I've been putting frozen raspberries in my protein shake.
