When I joined this site I asked about how you can travel and still have a low carb lifestyle. I am trying to do the Atkins diet and stay as close to it as possibly but I travel for work and that makes it s bit difficult.
I want to tell everyone about Ruby Tuesdays. No I don't work for them and get nothing out of this but... It is one of the easiest places that I frequent for my WOE. They have a wonderful web site that gives all the carb and calorie counts for their dishes. They also have a selection of side dishes that really helps me. And the salad bar is also great as it allows me to chose spinach rather than iceberg lettuce and even has that softer 'butter' lettuce. They have burgers that you can get with no bun as do many places. but they also have a new orleans talapia, chicken Bella and other dishes that are low carb. The sides are the key though - they have grilled zucchini, grilled green beans, mashed cauliflower, fresh tomato, and broccoli.
I just wanted to share given that it can be so hard to meet the veggie requirments when you are traveling. Happy dieting everyone

I agree with you on the Ruby tuesday menu! They have recently updated their menu and it tells you how many calories each dish has (that's nice to know when you dine out, because many dishes can have far more calories than you think). Their petite sirlion is 8 oz, and comes with 2 veggies (only $11.99). Total calories are around 400, depending on which veggies you choose. They have grilled zucchini & steamed sugar snaps, which are both delicious. Their salad has lots of cut-up, low carb veggies, and I use a small amount of their blue cheese dressing.
I also like Chick-fil-a's Chargrilled chicken salad. I just remove the shredded carrots. The lettuces is usually a nice bed of green leaf lettuce, and the salad comes with sliced grilled chicken, cheese, broccoli and a few salad tomatoes (I'm in induction, so I usually remove the tomatoes, just to be safe). I get Chick-fil-a's blue cheese dressing, and only use 1/2 a packet or less.

Carl's Jr. has become a regular event. Does anyone have carb counts for lettuce wrapped items that aren't the 6 dollar burger? I have to estimate and fear I may be getting it wrong.
The right decision at the right time.

Thanks for the tip about Ruby Tuesdays. It's one of the few restaurants I like to go to occasionally and I didn't know about the website or the side dishes you mentioned!

I really enjoy Ruby Tuesdays also. But I don't find eating out very challenging at this point. When in doubt, order plain broiled fish with steamed broccoli, sauteed spinach, or green beans. Nearly every place I go will give me extra veggies instead of potatoes or rice, and most places will give me sliced strawberries (is this OK on Atkins?) instead of potatoes or toast. This morning I had a great brunch out: egg white omelet with poblano peppers and chopped turkey, garnished with smoked tomato salsa and avacado. I had strawberries instead of potatoes, and treated myself to my once weekly serving of multigrain bread, but I could have done without. And this was just at a neighborhood dive. They were really cooperative about making everything to my specifications. Sometimes there's an "up" charge for the berries -- but not always. And if I'm just going to a neighborhood place, sometimes I bring a sprouted grain bun with me to substitute for the bagel with my lox. You just have to rid yourself of the embarrassment and hesitation to ask for what you need.

It was pretty good, went to Ruby Tuesday last night. Not a fan of too many of the chain restaurants, but would go back to this one again. Thanks for the recommendation. Ordered grilled chicken w/ grilled zucchini and the mashed cauliflower. All tasted well, very grilled but i was surprised that the serving of mashed cauliflower came up as 10 net carbs when plugged in this morning, next time i will try more green veggies instead. But it was nice and relatively inexpensive found a $10 off coupon on line to use.

Glad to hear about ruby and will try it. Burger King will give you a burger off the bun if you ask.
I'm loving Lind's low carb recipes.http://genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html

Whoa...don't get sucked into "off the bun" at Burger King or anywhere like it. The sodium alone will sabotage your diet -- no matter what plan you're following. If business travel forces you to eat at chain restaurants, look for Ruby Tuesday, Applebees, Denny's -- a place with a real menu of real food and a kitchen staffed with people who know enough about cooking to adapt a menu item to meet your needs.
