Even though I do miss regular bacon. I have been eating turkey bacon for quite awhile now. I do love it. Being more aware of what I'm eating, I'm just now realizing there are so many choices that come in turkey that I can eat in place of the regular high calorie things. I bought some Turkey jerky, and put turkey pepperoni on my home made pizza. Also love turkey wings and drums. I have started buying ground turkey and making my own breakfast turkey sausage. "gobble, gobble" LOL

I read an article (http://fitbie.msn.com/slideshow/food-face/slide/5) that turkey bacon doesn't even have real turkey in it - ew! The article brings up some interesting points on the pro's of real bacon - because the word "turkey" is in it, we are made to believe it's healthier for you when in fact, it may be worse! Ick! Something to think about - plus real bacon has 25 calories a slice - not too bad in my book!

real bacon is well real for one and it has less sodium and weird preservatives.

I have switched to turkey as a replacement for quite a few foods-ground turkey when I make tacos or spaghetti sauce, turkey hot dogs, turkey sausage. BUT, I draw the line at bacon. On the rare occasion that I want bacon, I indulge with the real thing. In my opinion, nothing can replace the goodness of thinly sliced pan fried salt cured pig belly.

I compared the numbers and the difference between pork bacon and turkey bacon is not enough to make me swear off pork bacon. Turkey bacon is chock full of stuff I can't even pronounce, and the texture just doesn't cut it for me. I like my bacon light and crisp. Turkey bacon tends to cook up a bit tough.
We eat bacon maybe once a month. Not enough to warrant a switch.

I agree with the real thing or nothing approach with bacon. Since I don't eat it often, at 25 calories a slice, I don't mind eating 3 or 4 slices at breakfast instead of that turkey bacon. Don't get me wrong, turkey as a replacement has its place - but not for my bacon!

I have to agree with real or nothing. I love bacon, it is one of the things that actually makes me very happy in the food department (Cheese and peanut butter are close seconds). God gave us magical animals that convert veggies into bacon...turkey is a bird, it should never try to imitate a pig.
You say you want a cheeseburger but all I hear is "I need love" - a comic strip on the fridge at work.
You have failed only when you quit trying. Until then, you're still in the act of progression. So, never quit trying and you'll never be a failure.

SO, What else are we eating that we can find something wrong with it. I'm sure we can all make a list of contradictions and find an article that may or may not support it. Do what works for you.

I used to only eat turkey bacon because I thought it was better for me, and I really do love the taste. But then I too discovered that turkey bacon is made from all sorts of mashed up parts of the turkey, parts that aren't used anywhere else, and they clean those un-edible parts with nasty chemicals to make them "edible". It was a sad day for me, but I've switched to regular bacon. I only eat a few slices a month so I'm not terribly worried about the extra fat, and I bake it so as much fat as possible drains off.

Hmmm. I wish I had read this post yesterday. I just wentto the store and bought turkey bacon to try. I've never had it before and thought I would see what its all about. Now I think I'd rather return it. Thanks for the heads up all.
