Hello everyone,

I'm interested in purchasing a Food Scale for the kitchen to help with being more accurate about recording what I'm eating.

If anyone has any information about any scale they have used (liked or hated) I'm interested in hearing the pros and cons.

If you could include the model # of the scale you have info about it would help.

Thanks in advance for any info.

I love this scale http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=16983853 It comes with a laminated book with codes for every food imaginable. It tells you the nutrition data for exactly what you put on it. If you are eating an apple you put in the code for that apple and it tells you right on the scree what that apple's nutrition is. It also displays just the weight if you don't want to hassle putting the code in. It is a great tool for making recipes.

I use a Salter scale Model:1008USSSBKDR I bought it in 2006 and it still works!! It is very simple to use, it will weigh from 11 lb to 0.05 oz. I have weighed big batches of tomatoes and regularly weigh spices on it. It has a zero function so you can put a bowl on it, zero the scale then add your ingredients into the bowl. It weighs in grams or pounds.

I use The Biggest Loser® Digital Kitchen Scale, $20 at Bed Bath & Beyond (probably at most stores). It's got a glass top and you can get both oz and grams, up 6 lbs. You can zero it out and add ingredients to a dish. It's light weight and small, very easy to use. Probably the best scaled I've used to date. Hope that helps.

Just wanted to update those of you who sent me info:

I read your postings and appreciate the info provided, but in the end I purchased the "KINTREX SCL0640 Digital Tempered Glass Kitchen Scale" from amazon.com for $20/+shipping.

I've been using it for about two weeks now and so far so good!.

Nice, small, unobtrusive digital scale that has a modern look to it and is easy to wipe clean. Display is easy to read and the surface area allows for easy use when using plates, bowls, containers etc...

With only two weeks of use I have no idea of it's longevity but so far I'm happy with my choice.

I've included the link if you're interested in seeing it:

Again, thanks for the input, it's appreciated.

Nice looking scale technut. Something important for people to remember when they are buying a food scale, get one with a higher limit than you think you need as you will be weighing some foods in their pan/pot.
My first scale could measure 3kg, which I soon discovered wasn't enough because my dishware was quite heavy. My scale now has a 5kg limit and I've been using it for 4 years - no problems.

I agree Sabs09, a scale with a higher weight limit is a necessary feature. It simplifies measuring which means it'll get used.

I'm on my second one, its a cheap XOXO Chinese scale. It is ok, I wouldn't buy another one because I have to tap the scale to get it to notice small 1g changes.

When my first scale broke, I got in the truck and went out and bought a new one. Too hard to calorie count if you have to try and use measuring cups.

I'm considering upgrading to a new OXO scale because it has a pull out display for when you're using larger items on it (like my dinner plates).
