This might be short notice. On Oprah today Kirstie Alley talks about how she fell off the food wagon. If you miss the show? You can read on the Oprah site the highlights. On the subject of Jenny Craig commercials. Doesn't Valerie Bertinelli look fantastic in that blue 2 piece swim suit!

I'm still trying to figure out why we all lose and gain it all and more back. Why we don't catch it before it gets so high. That 1100 lb man lost so much he looked like death and has gained every bit back. now thats alot. Skinny Bitch is such a good read. We REALLY do have to change our lifestyle. we are like alcoholics 1 drink or 1 taste of bad food and we get off track maybe we should treat it like that train ourselves to stay off bad food or we must immediately get back on track or die.

Oprah is on here soon. I am going to watch the show. I agree about gaining and losing over and over. I have a dear friend who took off 100 pounds and gained it back, then took it off again. I think if we focus more on how to keep the weight off as we lose. Might help us when we reach goal so we don't climb back up. Eat today as if you are already thin!

Okay, the show is over. Pretty much everything Kirstie said is on the site if people want to read. She plans to take the pounds off. Which I hope she does. Just goes to show it doesn't matter who you are, how much ya need to lose. You won't do it until you.......are ready. That man Michael on the show who lost and gain. Most people can't imagine weighing 500 pounds, let alone 1100. No matter how many pounds we want to lose? It CAN be done. : )

Kirstie Alley was really funny/cute on Oprah today. I hope she gets the will power to start using all that expensive gym equitment instead of letting it collect dust.
and yes Valerie looks fantastic! She totally went above and beyond what was expected.... and made a pretty penny for Jenny Craig in the process!

Hi Joyce, You can go to the Oprah site and read what she had to say on the show and see pictures of Kirstie. She gained all the weight back and has plans to start again. She said once she was off Jenny Craig, she didn't get on a scale or exercised for a year and a half. She is creating her own "how to lose" plan. She mentioned people could follow her progress on Twitter. She is now 58. I would like to see her succeed for many reasons. One being she is not just known as someone who gained weight.

Kirstie Alley is living proof that DIETS DON'T WORK LONGTERM. ok even though u could argue that for her it was a life-style change thing. but c'mon it's still Jenny Craig, which has chemically alternating foods, not the natural good stuff that u should be feeding ur body. the point is, she got off it and gained more than she started; a classic case scenario of anybody that goes on a diet and gets off it. so people whatever it is you're doing right now; ask yourself; could i do this same exact thing for the rest of my life? if your answer is no, then be prepared to gain it all back plus a few extra.
and yes i'm speaking from experience.
GOOD LUCK and love yourself

I totally agree, people go on a "diet" then you stop, then what? Big shock, the pounds are back. The idea is to learn how to keep the pounds off once you reach your goal. We all know it is possible to lose weight when we make an effort. Kirstie stopped. Was Jenny Craig the right plan for her? Only as long as she stay on the "diet". We don't want to say we are on "diet" forever. When we find the right plan we can do everyday? No more Diets!

I absolutely agree! I've done this & that diet in the past & when I stopped the weights just crept back on & then some. Now I'm calorie counting, but the only thing I've really changed is to eat more fruit & veg (about 300g per meal) & drink more water. Everything else is pretty much the same tho the portions are now smaller lol. I still eat fried foods, sodas, cakes & chocolates etc. This is something I believe I can stick to for the rest of my life.
I've learned that when I go on diets that restrict what I can & can't eat I naturally rebel & end up bingeing on all the things I've felt deprived of. So now I just eat what I want plus extra fruit, veg & water to help me feel full up & of course to get those vitamins & fibre in.
You really have to find what works for you. For me it's calorie count, portion control & plenty of fruit, veg & water.

Exactly! Everything you said is simple common sense, which we know. BUT don't do. The minute a person feels they are on a diet. That means they are suppose to change. Can't have what you want any more as often as you want? We resist and say forget this and go right back to our old habits. You hear life is short, eat dessert first, don't want to feel deprived when others are enjoying and you are staring at a salad. Like you said, we don't have to cross off any food from our menu. It all comes back to Portions and eating healthier. We know every diet on the market. Jenny Craig, Nutri System, Weight Watchers, frozen entrees, Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine offer? Portion control. IF we all portioned our foods, we would lose. I grin because I think the very 1st portioned entree should go to ...........Swanson, tv dinners. They are not in the diet business. Back then it was simply a meal you could heat and eat. People don't want to count calories. Once you look at those lables and see how much is in a serving ect... That's it. We usually buy the same foods. The hard part for people is learning to cut back on the portions. Who measures 1/2 a cup of icecream? You think why bother. The answer is because we are worth it. We CAN eat anything and still Lose! When we look at someone who is THIN. Do you think they live on lettuce and carrot sticks? No, they eat for ONE. : )

So frustrated!
8 pounds in a month is pretty great. That is 2 pounds per week. That is the far-end of the range of what you can leave and keep it off.

recording activities and food intake
You should be able to add most of your foods by grams. If the only option is a teaspoon, there are 28 grams (dry) in a teaspoon.
