I've noticed a lot of people are using flax seed. Are you using it to stabilize your blood glucose levels or for anti-cancer, cardiac or just to keep you "regular"? I am currently doing a low carb diet and was wondering whether I should incorporate this in my diet.

My diet is low carb too and I use flax seed daily. I use it for the anti-cancer properties and with the low carb diet any help in the "regularity" department is a plus Exclamation I sprinkle it on my salad and use the ground flax in protein shakes Smile

Flax seed is a terrific antioxidant for all the reasons you state. Just make sure that you've got FRESH seeds, or oil, or it'll have the exact opposite effect--- to cause more free radicals, and cause more damage to your body. Flax seed is hard to keep fresh for long. (I once worked for a company that marketed dietary supplements, including flax seed oil.)

I just found some awesome blue corn tortilla chips that are from Target, Archer Farms brand, with flax seed. They are sooo good. I usually just have a small handful before dinner with some fresh salsa. Delicious and easy way to get a little flax in!Laughing

If you get flax seed meal, keep it in the freezer. Never cook with flax seed oil.

I am on a low-carb diet and I eat flax meal in salads, protein shakes and flour-less muffins. (message me for recipe) I eat it for all the great properties it has.

I don't do well with the whole flax seeds, however.

Love the food that loves you back.

Take it one day at a time!

The body doesn't absorb whole flax seeds so there is no benefit in eating them whole. They'll go right through you. You have to buy flax meal or grind the seeds in a coffee grinder Smile

I have heard if you soak them in water for 8 hours first they are digestible whole, but I haven't tried it.

I agree... If you stick with the default you will most likely not see the results you want. I adjust my calorie range for every 5-10 pounds lost. I need to redo mine today.
