Hello all!! I am new to posting. Having a really hard time as I am quitting cigarettes at the sames time as going on the diet. I am good until about 9pm then I just want to munch, munch, munch. I am 15 days off smoking and started South Beach the same day. Anyone else having these late night cravings?

Welcome!! Congratulations on quitting smoking! That is the kindest thing that you can do for your body. Going onto a weightloss program can help you avoid the normal gains that occur when giving up cigarettes. Sounds like you're doing well, so hang in there! I think most of us get the munchies in the evening--partly because we're tired, or bored. My best solution when I can't resist putting things in my mouth at night is to just go to bed early! It works!! Have a great week, and keep up the good work!

im not on south beach, so i dont know what is approved and what's not, but i usually drink lots of water at night when trying not to eat. i used to have a bowl of ice cream at night while watching tv, so when i have a really strong urge, i have a 60 calorie fudge pop. hope that can work for you!

brush your teeth, munch on ice, celery, carrots...anything with a crunch...it helps by putting you through the motions of eating without getting the calories

I've not quit 100% (have one cigarette in the evening and chew nicotine gum during the day), but I still have the craving to put something in my mouth from the time I walk in the door at 5:30 until I go to bed at 10. I'm working on making new habits that dissuade me from eating past dinner. Just the small amount of structure in following Phase 1 of the SBD has helped break the crazy cravings in the evening.

I have crafts I want to get back into and I know that will help with the late evening cravings. I also know that the cravings and desire to overeat are signs that I'm not coping with my emotions regarding the eating plan, not smoking and stress from work. That means I need to dig deeper into myself.
