I'm looking for some advice. Is it better to exercise in the morning or evening.( I work) And if in the morning, do you eat something first. I had a bad experience once when trying to exercise in the morning.(almost passed out) I would prefer the morning, but don't want to risk another bad experience.
I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance.

I think its really a personal preference. I can't exercise in the evening because the endorphin rush from exercise keeps me awake for hours.

I prefer to exercise first thing in the morning before I eat, but that is just me. I make sure to drink plenty of water as I am exercising.

I remember reading that morning exercise is better. The endorphine rush was cited as one reason. Also, exercise jump starts your metabolism, so it's good to get a boost on the metabolism early in the day. Plus, it's over and done with and you don't have to worry about putting it off if something else comes along. Here's some info I found though.

Benefits Of Early Workouts

Exercising early is the only way to ensure that other chores that come up during the day won't keep your from missing your workout.
Surveys report that individuals who regularly exercised did so in the morning. So, if you're a morning exerciser, you're more likely to stick with it.
Research has shown that exercise increases mental sharpness for 4 to 10 hours post exercise.
Many women who exercise in the morning say they have more energy the rest of the day.
Some people claim that morning exercise regulates their appetite for the day, making them less hungry.

Benefits Of Afternoon Or Evening Workouts
Previous research concluded that a late workout would disrupt sleep. New research has reported that this assumption is not valid. Researchers say that you can exercise up to 30 minutes before bedtime without disrupting sleep patterns. In fact, it may help you fall asleep faster.
Afternoon is the best time to exercise for optimal workout performance quality.
Muscles are warm and more flexible in the afternoon.
Exercise is a good stress reliever after a long day.
Strength is at its peak in the afternoon.
In the end, the best time for you to exercise is whatever works well for you.

I prefer to exercise in the morning. Sometimes I'll eat something light 20-30 minutes beforehand (egg, piece of fruit, always some water!) to prevent from passing out, but I can usually go on an empty stomach. The endorphins are great.

Working out in the afternoon/evening is hard for me because I have less energy as the day goes on. If I jump start the day right away with some exercise, I'm MORE energized throughout the day as opposed to being exhausted during my workout.

I do it whenever I can work it in, which is sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon, and often half and half. (I read its a bigger boost for your metabolism to split your workout in two pieces). I always eat first though. Did you eat breakfast first? Once I was on a low calorie diet and rode my bike really fast for about an hour and a half-- before I was done my blood sugar was so low I was hallucinating. So that's why I check to make sure I'm not hungry before I leave, but other people prefer not to eat first so that their body will burn fat and not whatever they just ate. Your body will tell you what it prefers, I am sure. Smile Good luck!

apparently if you exercise for 1 minute _FLAT OUT_ then rest for a minute you get all the advantaves of a cardio vascular workout without the lactic acid that causes muscle pain. hope that helps!

I work out in the evening only because it fits into my schedule better. But if i have a chance I will work out in the afternoon and then again in the evening.

I exercise in the afternoon because the gym is almost empty then. I make sure and have a smoothie with whey protein before I go because that gives me the strength to lift the weights and push through the cardio. Otherwise I run out of steam!

Working out for me is a stress reliever, so I prefer the afternoon, after work because it is a great way to let go of all the days frustrations. That way by the time I get home I am in a totally different state of mind then I was leaving work. Also I remember reading an article that said no matter how tired you feel after work you still have energy to work out. I think you burn more calories too because you are more awake then first thing in the morning. Might be personal preference but I am not a morning person, the more sleep I can get the better Wink

I exercise afternoon or night. I am just too tired in the morning.

Personally;I think it doesn't matter "when" you exercise...as long as you DO!!
But if you choose a time that you're comfortable with, then you're more likely to stick at it.
