I just started today! I definitely need support - am willing to give it too!!! I really want to stay on this long enough to get to my goal this time ( I've done this and many other diets before) . Journaling and posting messages at a site like this is the only new thing I'm trying. So HELP?????? We'll see if this works! I spent the morning trying to get foods ready like the custard for deserts and the chickpea snack so that when I'm crunched for time because I'm running my child everywhere from after school till bed time - I won't get frustrated and go off.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The best time to prepare is when your child goes to sleep. I have 3 children my self with a very active 2 year old. I recommend at the store get zatarans redbeans and rice that already prepared in the store. It's in a bag and a minute in the microwave and its done. That really helps me. Also I keep apples, yogurt lowfat vanilla flavored and salad. Hope this helps...

Thanks "losenow" ! Since I'm doing South Beach - can I have rice? I'm just starting Phase 1. I know I can't have fruit for two weeks!
Unfortunately - my child NEVER went to sleep! I think this contributed to my weight problem. My husband, who had to get up for work the next day, would go to bed and I'd sit up - messing with food - waiting for my child to go to sleep. He's 13 now (the son not the husband), and that problem is over, but I've developed some very bad night eating problems over the past 13 years. Night eating is what stands between me and losing weight. I'll do great all day - and then - KABOOM!

I am so sorry I am on the Fatsmash diet. So my advice is for that. My suggestion for the night eating is you need to occupy your time. If you like to read do that. TV is a huge no no. May be do an exercise tape. But do something besides eating. If you have to eat raw vegetables that would be best. I hope this helps you alot more than the first. Mary O keep up the good work I am proud of you already.

All good suggestions
I hope I can do them! I went to the gym tonight and ran into the trainer I used last year when I was making progress. After he finished teasing me about what was I doing there - I felt better - that was a hurdle I had to face. Now I just have to get back there again tomorrow.

I hate those types of embarassing situations, sometimes you just gotta swallow your pride, take the hit and move on. It's how you finish that matters, that's for sure.
The O's very chic I think.

Congratulations on your new little daughter. You're right in trying to get the food situation sorted out now while she's on formula or breast milk.
I too am new to this diet - but I have several family members who were very successful with it - plus it's ultra healthy - plus it helps you feel better. The recipes are very delicious and my family is enjoying them too. I just add some pasta or baked sweet potatoes for my son. It's actually better for kids to eat this way too.

During the week I do great! It's the weekends that hurt. But here are a few things to think about. I do better at night if I have the ricotta cream desert because it's so filling. I do better if I get my water intake up to 100 oz. (I know it's a lot - adding crystal light helps). I do better if I pre-plan in my journal what I will eat the next day - you can always change it later if you want. I noticed that one of our fellow dieters was using the sf choc. popcycles - I got some of those to help with the sweet cravings. This morning I added a sf hot choc. mix to my coffee to make it a little more interesting.
Have only been on this diet for 1 week as of today -I lost 3.5 my first week - I would have done better - but I didn't SB all weekend! I'm going to try harder this week.
You shouldn't be starving - maybe you're not eating enough.

Hi Mary! Thanks so much for your comment on my posting! I found after being REALLY FAITHFUL to week one, my sweet cravings disappeared...My biggest challenges are all those things made with flour or combo flour & sugar - so if I can get "clean" from that stuff, the cravings go away. I've walked this road before, just didn't stick with it.. A few years ago I omitted ALL FLOUR and sugar from my food plan and wound up losing 50 pounds and maintaining that loss for almost 2 years. Then I thought I could handle introducing that stuff again into my food plan, and that first bite was the beginning of my downward spiral, bringing me to the point where I started last week with a total of 70 pounds to lose...
I'm trying to remember and re-introduce all the things that worked well, and SB is a great plan for me, though I'm probably going to try to skip all wheat and cane surgar products going forward. Community is also important to me, so I'm hoping to find that on this site.
I'm really looking forward to my first bowl of oatmeal on Sunday, I'm tired of EGGS!!!
Hope this coming weekend is a great weekend for you!

I need to lose that much weight also. I hope I can do it. My willpower isn't what it used to be. I have a hard time keeping my personal needs in focus when the family starts spinning around me. I appreciate that you shared your own frustrations with me - and I know I need to do this.

Hi everyone It's really motivating to read all your messages. How long did you all stay on Phase 1 (is it for two wks) I have the book but I like hearing it from real people....lol I like hearing what works for all of you. I think I'm going to stay on it a little longer because I have cheated a little. I love those carbs and I'm afraid I gave in.....had some choc, too. I better confess it all while I'm at it.....lol I sure hope I can do this. I really miss my fruits, too. I'll admit it I'm really weak when it comes to snacking, too....that's my downfall! I always snack on high caloried foods....SWEETS! Ok, I got it all out, now I know I can do this! I'm trying to do this to get fit, healthy and make good food choices! That's my goals! I also will do better and find something to do to help me avoid the snacking on sweets. Thanks for listening and all of your good advice....I like adding the Crystal Lite. I'm gonna try that. I know I need to up my water intake, too! Kayless

Hi Kayless!
Everything I've read cautions against sticking with phase one more than two weeks because it's too restrictive and tends to backfire...But you have to do what you think will work best for you, so good luck with that!
We're finishing up phase 1 today, and though I didn't do everything PERFECTLY in phase 1, I'm ready to move on to phase 2 tomorrow. I guess because I have so much weight to lose, I am trying to approach this as a life-change and not so much a weight loss diet. Big changes take time, and every day is another opportunity to do better than I was doing before I started this foodplan. Me, the "drive through queen", has given up all fast foods, minus one grilled chicken salad I got at Chic Fillet when travelling. (What IS that awful stuff all fast food places put on their salad greens that makes themtaste medicinal? IK)
Unfortunately I'm a perfectionist, so it's hard to be satisfied with less that 100% total adherence - but I'm trying to learn to get that "drill-sergeant within" take a hike! (HaHa!)

Hi everyone. I am just getting back into SB after having a great weight loss. Have lost about sixty pounds on SB so far (in about a year and a half). Have gained back about seven since starting a new job in September (the dreaded vending machines) and wanted to nip it in the bud before it got out of hand. It is amazing how the weight falls off when I get rid of the sugar and white carbs. So I am starting back today at Phase 1 and saw this great opportunity for support along the way. I hope everyone is having a great week. Can't believe I am starting this right before Thanksgiving but...

Did you survive thanksgiving. I too focus on carb elimination. Sometimes I allow myself a slice of bread when I'm out for dinner and am ravenous. Not great but not the end of the world.
Hold back on the superlatives - unless they're deserved!
