Too many carbs?

Hi guys, wonder if you can help me out. I am new to this and have religiously been entering my food intake, limiting it to 1200 calories per day and increasing my exercise levels but I'm not getting anywhere Doubt Having looked at another post I think I am eating too many carbs but I don't want to do an Atkins style diet as I like my cereal in the morning. Anyone got any suggestions or good tips/recipe ideas on how to keep my carbs down and how many should you have during the day?

Try to avoid sugars and flour - that's a good starting point. Also, a lot believe in limiting "the four whites", IE potatoes, rice, pasta and bread.
Make sure you drink enoug water, make sure you get enough protein and fat.

From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. As someone posted on another thread, I was previously a "carbivore". Cereal and fruit for breakfast, sandwich for lunch (more bread) with lunch meat, dinner was a little meat and lots of pasta, rice, or potatoes. In between, lots of crackers and cookies. I gained a lot of weight eating this way.

A simple thing I did was start replacing those boxed/processed carbs or starches with vegetables and low sugar fruits and berries. I was keeping my total net carbs (after fiber) to about 100-125g daily. Reducing my refined carbs actually gave me a better balanced diet. I think when you eat well (as long as you still don't overeat), weightloss is a nice side effect.

It'll give you an idea of how many calories you are supposed to be eating and how many carbs, protein and fat you need too.

And don't forget protein. I eat some with every meal. Protein triggers a hormone to send a signal to your brain that you're full.
