If a person is more than a few pounds over weight I would suggest walking with intention for at least 20 minutes! Jogging is hard on everything and can be discouraging to an overweight person. Everything in moderation for long term success, including food
Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

Hi Snow833,
It's almost a trick question. Cardio is always the best fat burner BUT weightlifting builds muscle and a pound of muscle burns more calories than a pound of fat even while you're just sitting on the couch. Also, weightlifting helps to combat osteoporosis as well has having lots of other benefits. Cardio obviously is great for your heart and lungs, etc. Sooo...you should do some of both if you can. I lift weights before work and then go for a walk on my lunch hour. I walked very slow initially but am now up to a pretty brisk pace and I find that's enough for me for now.

Cardio never worked for me, but when I started weight training, that's when I saw results, and finally got the ABS that I always wanted!

Honestly no matter what kind of workouts I did with cardioIF I DIDT EAT RIGHT, I WAS NOT LOSING NOR LEANING. I finally got a trainer, boot camps, then drastically began eating every 3 hours. I've heard that all my adult life and it is no joke. Even when you eat with prepared food meals, like My Fit Foods, they give you 5meals a day. People lose at minimum 15 pounds. Nutrition + getting your heart rate up (cardio + weight training) will be your key. Take it in stride. Get up in the am, and as soon as you do, EAT. I've have even had to set an alarm every 3 hours. You can do it.

Neither cardio nor weightlifting are needed to loose weight. It's 100% diet issue. If you want to preserve muscle on losing fat eat abt 1g protein per 1 lb of lean weight, reduce the calories gradually to establish the loss rate of abt 1 pound per week and that's there is to it. Simple

I'd say lifting weight. What this does is burns the fat IN the muscle. It also gets your body to a point where even when you're just sitting reading a book, you're burning calories more efficiently. I have been fighting fatty liver disease, and I've noticed that as I've done fat-burning weight lifting, my liver pain has eased and my triglycerides have improved GREATLY.
But do maintain cardio exercise to keep your heart strong and healthy.

Well I lose inches when I lift weights or use resistance. I lose lbs when I jog or bike. I've plan on arranging my schedule to work out with both and have a rest day. Plus I eat within reason

This work out is the best, interval training is great for fat loss, especially if you do it before breakfast. Couldn't recommend this more

Eating frequently may be your preference but it offers no advantage. Common myth. It may have been what you needed to remain in a calorie deficit, but it does not help physiologically.
Love your food or risk failure. No quick fixes, this is a lifestyle change. No extremes are needed just consistency.

well I disagree with that article. While it is true that relying on just exercise for weight loss is often a weak strategy, it is well documented that exercising helps with maintaining the weight besides all the other effects both look and health wise.
By the way I play tennis and cycle and can burn easily 700-1000 calories over a day with these two activities, which help a lot especially to get more flexibility in what I can eat rather than trying to loosen weight too fast. It does not seem irrelevant. The one thing I agree with is that many people use half hour jog to get a free pass on 1000kcal fast food binge which obviously does not add up but if you monitor your calories balance then exercise is gold.

Any exercise is good. However you replace fat (which is good) with heavier muscle ( which is even better) but you will be leaner for the same weight. It also helps in reducing visceral fat which is bad and often overlooked when losing weight.

As long as we're setting up exercise programs...
Any good exercise program should include some cardio, some strength, and some stretching. Stretching is important because it can improve your quality of life in the same way that being able to cross a street during the walk light or being able to move furniture without hurting yourself can. My ex-husband can't pick up stuff off the floor that he has dropped without grunting and groaning (and he's not fat), and I know older people who can't reach over their heads to grab something off a high shelf they used to be able to reach.

Cardio is the best exercise who help you lose weight combine with a healhty diet not a strict one a healthy one. Some people want lose fat the easy way wich is bad, so remember CARDIO is the best exercise in losing weight.
What are the cardio execrise? are many: starting from jumping on one leg for few minutes intense, to go up on the stairs, walking, runing, biking, hicking, dancing...etc

To achieve weight loss ALL you have to do is burn more calories than you take in so either activity will help. For overall wellness, however, I've heard that the best thing to do is cardio because it's good for your heart, stamina, and lungs, and much easier on your joints.

Cardio is the best exercise to lose weight. But weight lifting also important to build muscle, strength, and make us look good too. Weight lifting need time to recuperate at least a day or two. But cardio is a must for every day. Cheers
