Weighing myself daily was very defeating. It was also addicting. it took alot of effort to stop. Stay away from the scale. If you are dieting and excercising, use your clothes as your guide. Muscle weighs more than fat so if you are really excercising you will lose pounds gradually but you will fit your clothes better because you are shedding mass.

That has always been my goal to drink 8 8oz of water daily and it was a challege but now I have congestive heart failure and I can only drink 1 liter of all fluids daily and it is a bigger challenge. Go Figure.

I forgot to mention I must weigh myself daily to insure no water retention which is also contrary to the weigh once a week goals.

Well the ideal is to check your weight once every two weeks. Every week is acceptable, every day is not good at all, simply because your weight naturaly balances up and down during a day or from one day to another, and checking it everyday will bring your motivation down in no time... Oh and you should check it always in the morning after you wake up.

Exactly. I weigh myself first thing in the morning before I have breakfast and take a shower. It's the lowest I'm going to weigh that day. Studies show that your metabolism doesn't shut down over night and while getting a good nights sleep you lose weight.
Also, think of losing weight as a marathon and not a sprint. It's what you do over time that you should focus on, not the day to day weight. Best way to do this is to record your weight everyday. I use the urgravity service and it automatically records it for me and it's easy to see how my weight goes down over time.
37 pounds down and 10 to go.

i used to weigh myself at least once a day but that is often too discouraging. I now do it once a week or even less often. i prefer to try on my clothes. this way i can tell if i have lost weight without obsessing about numbers

I weigh myself a lot. I think that keeps me from worrying about normal variations. For instance, I have "lost" a lot of weight 2 days in a row. But I know from my history that it will probably be a week before I stabilize at that weight. The scale does lie. There really is no true weight, only trends that you can see if you follow diligently.

I weigh myself far too often. Usually first thing in the morning and sometimes last thing at night. I know we naturally gain weight during the day and we're lightest at the morning, but it's a good feeling to see that at night, you're lighter than you were in the morning last week. I suppose it's a double edged sword getting weighed everyday, it can be a little obsessive which can be dangerous but on the other hand when it's going good it's good encouragement and when it's going bad it's a kick up the backside. When I was piling the weight on I never got weighed at all, it just crept up on me without me even thinking about it. Maybe if I did I'd have scared myself into doing soemthing about it sooner.

I do like to encourage myself by checking my weight. I feel like some days I'm heavier and some days I'm lighter. If I don't check and I find I've only lost 1 pound or if I've feeling full and I've gained 3 pounds I feel horrible enough to continue my routine that works for me. I'm not excessive with checking it. But I do like to know the progress my body has done because I've been 127 pounds heavier then I am now. And just the mirror gives me a reflection of beauty that was hidden under layers of depression and self destruction. Now that I've had my daughter it's inspired me to watch my weight closely to stay alive and healthy for her.....( proud mommy)

I weigh myself every morning with the reminder that just because I'm heavier today doesn't mean I'm not loosing weight. My "serious" day is on Sunday. That way once a week I judge based on it. I also have a scale that tracks up to 8 weeks back to know over all if I'm loosing or gaining. I try to keep the "daily number" only as a reference guide versus a definitive number.

I weigh myself every day, having just started it's really motivating to see it coming off! Once my weight loss slows down I might just hop on every week, if I can bring myself to do it! It's probably a really bad habit I've got myself into.

I try not to weigh myself daily ...rather how do I feel in clothes. I used to weigh myself everyday!!! I've been exercising (p90x) so I'm actually shrinking in inches...LOVE IT! I weigh myself once per week....sometimes I cheat mid-week...but overall...feeling groovy.

I avoid consistency with weigh-ins, like to keep the scale guessing.
