Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for workouts for people who live upstairs and can't work out too much because of the people who live underneath them. I hope that makes sense. I have already lost 6lbs just by giving up soda but I would like to lose a lot more and I know working out helps but I can't because the tenants underneath me already complain that I "walk too hard". Any suggestions anyone?

Try yoga and strength training. Use resistance bands instead of weights for a quieter workout. Unfortunately, these workouts aren't cardio workouts but they will help burn calories and tone you. I live on the second floor as well so I know how you feel. Go outside for your cardio. A simple walk or jog does the trick Smile

Seriously they complain because you "walk too hard"? Shock Shock Shock And their noise is quiet I assume?

An exercise bike should be quiet wnough. Wrist and ankle weights worn through the day would also burn more (word of advice, don't leave the wrist weights on while cleaning dishes... It hurts! Laughing ).

Push ups, planks, side plank and elbow planks are quiet and will work your upper body and core! If you have hand weights you can do a wide variety of exercises that make absolutely no noise (except for your breath, of course!)

Calethetics? google it, its just using your own body to work out, but its very quiet. It's short 30 second or 1 minute workouts x

I have that same issue. I have people living underneath me. I do have an exercise DVD, but some things I simply can't do because of this. We live in an old building, and if I jump lightly in one end of the room, I can hear cabinets clatter in the other end.
However, I CAN do some of the exercises, and I will. I do, however, try to work out when there is nobody downstairs and try to make things work out.
Also, my exercise bike is noise less. If you're simply talking about burning some calories, this might be a good way to go. No jumping.

1. Bake some yummy brownies.
2. Visit your downstairs neighbors, bring brownies.

use the stairs for cardio, and inside do strength training and yoga/pilates, no noise there. Get an exercise ball if you don't want to do exercises on the floor. Best of luck to you!

I've lived above someone in an apartment before and I hate that everything you do, you have to think if it's going to make too much noise because of the people downstairs. I've been doing Tiffany Rothe workouts on YouTube. They are actually really fun and they WORK! I do them after the kids are in bed sometimes so I know they are quiet. My elliptical is too squeaky to use after they go to bed.

I don't have anyone living below me but there really isn't much noise with the Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown DVD I have...it's an oldie but a goodie. You definitely get the cardio in and it's actually pretty difficult if you've never done yoga before. It gives you things to work up to! Very Happy I think we found it at Walmart for around $10. Other than that, exercising outside feels awesome.

Sparkpeople.com's Coach Nicole has "chair workouts" that will get your heart rate up pretty well. I have tried it. It feels silly at first but it is fun and will actually get you out of breath pretty quickly. Their workout videos are free, and this particular one is done seated in a chair. No noise at all.

I have this same problem when I do a RIPPED workout DVD about once a week. There is a lot of jumping and noisy cardio. So, I do it barefoot to minimize the amount of noise I am making. It has actually helped me work on my balance and strength in my legs. Having to focus on not crashing down hard and having to really follow through on your movements seems to help!

I also make sure that I am exercising at reasonable hours, not after 7pm or before 10am if I can help it. If I can't then I'll go for a run outside or to the gym instead.

I have a bodymedia fit and love it. It really helps keep you motivated and focused. It does allow you to sync with a heart rate monitor, but I find it has been a good tool regardless.
