Anyone have ideas to help with the snacking urge that comes when you stop smoking. I am not into the gum, lozenges, or patch. This is purely a cold turkey approach for me.

I am still working out and eating healthy, but the craving to snack is BAD!! I want to continue to lose the weight until I get to my goal.
If you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.-George W Patton

Good for you....that is definetly the best thing you can do for YOU !!!

I quit smoking 4 yrs ago after smoking for 33 years.I was approx 12 when i started......

I used straws....which i cut in half...and kept them in baggies everywhere...in my car, in the kitchen, on the table in the room with the tv...even in the bathroom....for me it made the transition from holding a cigarette and having the hand mouth action very easy.....I can honestly say that i gained ZERO lbs after i quit....I honestly admit all my weight was already there....

Straws for me were the "bomb" as my kids woulkd say....i held them , i chewed them, they were my snoopy security blankie....then miraculasly i began reaching for them less and less....

Now i am a proud 4 year quitter

hope this helps a little...

Frozen seedless grapes and celery sticks worked for me when the urge to snack was strong. Congrats on making the decision to quit and good luck!!!

I don't smoke so I can't help you with that. All I can give you is a good luck. As far as I know some uses candies, but sweets is not good so I guess Jessica's frozen grapes is a good idea.

Hi, I havn't long given up, well it will be 7 months tomorrow & via cold turkey.

Like you I wasn't into gum, but I bought a few packs of flavoured Airwaves chewing gum for emergencies, plus I was brushing my teeth several times a day & swilling on mouthwash too. Within three weeks I'd stopped buying chewing gum.

Fruit & raw carrots is the best fast food anyone can have when they have the attack of the munchies.

Good luck

My husband read a book called "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr and he swears by it. He quit about 5 years ago after reading the book and hasn't looked back. He shared it with 2 or 3 others who also quit. Since I was never a smoker, I never read it and don't know why it works. The same author also has another book to quit drinking which he also read and he hasn't drank for 3 or 4 years. Check out the reviews for these books on amazon.

I brushed my teeth a lot and also used tooth picks, baby carrots and freeze pops. Good luck!

I quit 10 yrs ago and I gained about 50 lbs, but at that time I wasn't concerned with weight gain since I was already heavy. I would now saw eat raw veggies, fruit, popcorn and/or Popsicles. Best of luck to you, quitting smoking is hard, but SO worth it.
