Hi all, I know this isn't the site for medical advice, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this dilema. My blood pressure meds were adjusted (increased) for me last November. My annual physical isn't supposed to be happening until next November. With 40+ lbs. of weight loss, my BP is now reading 115/65. That's an average. Once it came in at 95/61. That doesn't seem right. Has anyone else experienced this? How low is too low?

Both are low. You may need to get your meds adjusted again after that great 40lb loss! Contact your doctor asap.

I agree, it should only take a quick phone call to the doctor and I bet they will be jazzed that you shed so much weight! Good for you!

I used to be on two different kinds of blood pressure regulation medicines. After I lost weight I am now medicine free. It could VERY well be that you need adjusting. Smile

I started my weight loss journey on October 4th, 2010 - and this is what I have accomplished so far:

Yes, I have absolutely had this happen! I hadn't even lost much weight-- just five pounds or so-- but I'd been running three times a week. I called my doctor and told him that I felt light-headed sometimes when I stood up, and every time after I got off the treadmill. I'd bet the same thing is happening to you.

He asked me what I was taking, since he didn't have my records in front of him, and I told him. "Come see me sometime in the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime cut them in half."

We switched to a much weaker medicine for a while, then decided to try stopping them entirely. That worked in terms of my blood pressure, but I retained about ten pounds of water within a week-- it was so bad that I couldn't walk across the room without getting out of breath. Finally we settled on a low dose of a diuretic, and a few days later all was well. As of a few weeks ago, my blood pressure was 116/72.

Bottom line: call your doctor's office and tell them what's happening. I guarantee that any doctor worth his or her salt will be happy to see you for this, and will work with you on adjusting your medication. Be prepared for a period of "dialing in" a new dose if they don't take you off of it completely.
