So I was listening to a podcast that talked a lot about B-12, so it got me thinking of trying it. I went to buy some today and saw a wide range of types and doses. My question is: Has anybody here tried it? If so, what dose and did you see any effect? If you saw an effect what was it? TIA

i use a super B complex, it contains many of the B's and C. it does give me more energy, but i would recommend not taking them with caffeine, that makes me jittery.
they are water soluble so you can't "overdose" on them. one side effect, it will turn your urine bright yellow. that's from the leftovers not used by your body.

I get a weekly B-6/B-12 shot and I love it. First of all, when I was first cutting out carbs, it got rid of my headaches from the sugar withdrawal. Now that I have been low carb for a while, I still take it for 1. overall feeling of well being 2. mood stabilization and 3. I think it has decreased the severity and length of menstrual cramping (not that you need that Soulnoid, hehe). Part of that could also be atributed to my increased water intake since starting the diet, as well. My nutritionist says it helps with reducing feelings of hunger but since I also take an appetite suppressant, it's hard to say if that is really the case. I've been thinking about getting a B complex vitamin as well, but have been too lazy to get to the store to get it yet.

I too use a supplement stack including b-complex. I also take a calcium/magnesium/zinc/vit-d supp, a regular multi-vitmain, and also a flaxseed supp for the omega-3s (although, i'm hearing a regular fish oil supp is better). After doing research when I was down with my knee injury, I was reading taking those supps was good for energy and keeping the metabolism stoked. I can't say for sure if I feel a difference or not, but my performance levels have have definitely improved a lot, so I'll definitely stick with them if even for the placebo effect.

CJT1217, when you say 'performance levels have improved' where and how did you see it? Hom many mcg are you taking? I just started taking it today and want to know what to look for. (Fish pills have helped me a lot with the blood and heart, I can tell when I miss a day.)
gkcfm95, I love my coffee and I take my pills in the morning, I guess I will have to watch for the jitters?

That's the thing, I don't know if it's just all plain old hard work or if the supps are really helping in someway. After taking glucosamine after my injury and healing much faster than I expected I became a believer in supps. I use my trail runs as a gauge to tell me how I've improved. I used to struggle, even just a month ago, but now, I can easily handle running up hills in the heat with layers which was a huge surprise to me. My muscular and cardio endurance and strength when pushing hard is where I've seen the improvement. I'll have to take a look at my dosages and post them up here tomorrow.

Why not go get your B-12 levels tested before taking a supplement? Or, if you've had bloodwork done recently just call your doctor and ask what your B-12 level was.

I don't have much caffiene, maybe a little coffee and hardly ever have soda, so you may not be as sensitive.
oddly, if I take it right before bed I wake up easier in the morning. but still feel rested.
as with everything, your mileage WILL vary
