I weigh myself every morning too. I find that weight varies day to day and plateaus for awhile. And weight loss/gain doesn't always correspond with how hard you dieted or exercised. But seeing the downward trend over a longer period is encouraging, especially during the plateaus.

personally I think that weighing often is not a good thing. First it is misleading because there might be physiological weigh variations that might lead somebody who has a neurotic approach to dieting to either change a plan that works or to get discouraged and quit.
Secondly being obsessed with the scale is part of the problem not the solution, long term fat loss demands a lifestyle change not short term crash diet and motivation should not be linked to a number on the scale especially since that number is often unreliable.
I generally weigh myself every 2-3 weeks at the same time of the day, but am now changing the strategy and weigh in only when I hit a calories deficit target (generally 25 or 30 k) so the time is sufficiently long to give a meaningful info. Besides if I drop weight but the fat percentage does not drop, I would not be happy

Couldn't agree more! When I began in January I was too fat for even my strongest set of scales sio I had to wait till my hospital appointment to do it there. Every 3 weeks works a treat. Only time I put weight on was Easter (cheeky me celebrated both Western and Orthodox Easter a week apart so it was one long binge) and second time was due to heavy constipation due to my pain medication (stopped taking them and I am once again good.) I feel much more relaxed without weighing myself frequently and attribute my success to that.

I also weigh every day..it keeps me in check..when I don't weigh myself it's because I don't want to know and I'm probably gaining weight!! I WANT to KNOW now!! It keeps me very accountable!!

I am only going to weigh myself once a week (Monday mornings). Weight fluctuates day to day based on water retention, etc. I started using fat secret two weeks ago and have found what really hold me accountable is using the food journal after every meal. I can track how many calories I have eaten and compare it to calories burned. If I have taken in more than I have burned after dinner...I try to get a little more exercise to change that. It helps to think about what I am actually putting in my body.

I weigh once a week, but I don't think it matters whether you weigh once a day or once a week as long as you are regularly tracking.
What might be a problem is your emotional attactment to the number. I have struggled with this myself and I am trying to use the food tracker and an independent exercise tracker as a way to stop using the scale as my only marker of progress. Weight loss is not a straight drop -- men can see normal fluctuations on the scale as they lose weight, but women definitely will. Our cycles guarantee it. If your feelings of success are tied solely to a machine that only measures weight without any way of determining what makes up that weight -- muscle, fat, water, food in your digestive tract, whatever -- at some point you are going to be discouraged when you feel like you have worked so hard and the scale doesn't give you the result you think you earned. It is exciting when the numbers start dropping, but give yourself a second or even a third measure of success. Successful weight loss is a huge change in anybody's life. There are many better ways to measure progress besides the scale.

I find it helps me to learn more about what my actions' consequences are if I overweight.
My starting point is weighing myself every morning in the same state of dress, hydration, and after having gone to the bathroom. It's the best way to gauge it without the fluctuation.
But just to understand how my daily weight fluctuates, I often take it before and after going to the bathroom, at night before bed, before and after meals, etc. Just to understand how the numbers reflect real-life activities.
You get incrementally better information the more data points you have. Just make sure it's out of curiosity, not neuroticism.

I weigh-in every morning. It's like haveing my mother there scolding me if I go up. It's my way of keeping me on track.

The jury is out on whether it is better to weigh yourself daily or just periodically. Some will tell you weighing daily can help realize if your are eating too much salt, overdoing it some days, etc. Others will say weighing daily is just self torture. It's all according to the person. Is weighing daily helping you realize bad habits or is it just making you crazy? If it's just discouraging you then pick another daily habit!

I'm with gdotmarsh: I weigh ALL THE TIME, but because it's interesting to see the differences throughout the day and because I loooove my fancy scale, not because I'm freaking out about it.
I think it helps me not spaz over every little up and down, knowing that that is a DAILY occurrence and not necessarily a measure of true added body weight.
Everyone has their own mindset and approach to these things, but that's how it works for me.

I went on a self-imposed scale sabbatical for a month and it was the best thing I could have done for myself! I had gotten to the point of weighing myself every morning.. and the results would dictate my mood. If I was up it was defeated, and "how will I lose it" mood and if I was down then I worried about keeping it off! no win situation!
It was really hard the first week, but after that it was really no big deal. I was curious but not obsessive, and definitely more relaxed. I now weigh myself once a week, sometimes more sometimes less... but I approach the scale differently, without so much stress and anxiety.
I highly recommend a scale sabbatical - even just a week or two!

I weigh every day - but lately I find I'm weighing in the afternoon too - "just to see" .. and today I went up like 4lbs! I was so mad! My weight loss has been so up & down it's really getting to me, one week I'm down 3, next week back up 2, next week down 2, next week up 3. I'm following a high protein low carbs plan a fitness expert did up for me but I'm starting to think it's not the best plan for me

Weighing yourself daily is not a bad thing, if you can maintain perspective. An easy way to do that is with trend chart. Enter your weight every day and it tracks actual weight loss over time, helping you ignore bumps and plateaus. There are several tools out there (I use 'Libra' on my android) or, if you love math, it is pretty simple to do by hand. A search for 'the hackers diet' will find what you need.
If you do decide to try this, keep two things in mind: You need at least seven data points, so the first seven days are meaningless; and it is unforgiving, if your diet plan is not working as well as you think, it will show you that.

I weigh myself at the same time every morning & every night. I have found it effective in my weight loss. It helps me monitor the out come of what I eat. Weighing myself like that also helps me to keep track of how much I loose over night. I've noticed after working out & not eating after 7:30 its always effective for me. I've lost 32 lbs & I'm still working hard to be healthy.

Even though fat doesn't count in Atkins, it can cause you to gain or not lose weight if you consume too much. Be careful of over eating this nutrient. ie: cream, cream cheese.
