So my BMI is 32.7 That is in a catergory of OBESE- wow I never considered myself OBESE, I knew I was HEAVY and that I needed to lose ALOT of weight and that I was overweight but wow OBESE- that put a whole new perspective on things- I can't wait for my BMI to decrease and I can find myself into a healthy catergory.

Google BMI calculator; the CDC has a good, user-friendly one. Mine is 27.7; it sure felt good to go from obese to overweight! I'm looking forward to reaching normal weight; I set my goal one pound under normal's top weight for my height, lol.

I am morbidly obese! Imagine being told that you're so obese that it's deadly. I'd give anything for plain, old obese. Labels suck
. Especially when you've already made the positive choice to do something about it.

Once, I found this really good website to calculate BMI. If I can find it again I'll post the link. It broke it down into smaller categories. Helped me set smaller goals, instead of one big one.
BMI Classification:
18.5 or less Underweight
18.5 to 24.99 Normal Weight
25 to 29.99 Overweight
30 to 34.99 Obesity (Class 1)
35 to 39.99 Obesity (Class 2)
40 or greater Morbid Obesity

i played around with the weight to see what it would take to get me in a lower category.

Just know that the BMI is, at best, questionable. It's OK for a rough idea, but it has serious flaws for anyone outside of average height and average body composition.
Most pro athletes would be considered obese. Most very tall or very short people would be considered obese even when they are merely moderately overweight. Women with particularly large breasts would be considered obese (even if they are perfectly fit).
Even for average folks it tends to be too conservative.
For example, I'm 6'4" and in order to be considered in the middle of "normal weight" the BMI says I should be 170lbs. Right now I'm 245 with about 170 lbs of lean body weight (and I'm not particularly muscular -- only slightly above average at best). In other words, I would have to have around 0% body fat for it to consider me comfortably in the "normal" range.
Personally, I'm aiming for about 210 with a 185 lean body mass. According to that I'd still be "overweight" despite having a very healthy (for a male) 12% body fat.

Woot really close to obesity class 1!!! When I started my bmi was 47 and now it is 35.. ohh how I long to be overweight.
6 more rungs down on the bmi ladder. 175 lbs.. whew that seems really far away.. While I also look at the bmi thing.. I agree with fedaykin.. it is a bit screwy. body fat is a much better indication of a healthy weight. While watching a documentary on heart disease a coroner said that the bmi chart was wrong 41% of the time, in both directions. People who were considered to have a healthy bmi were actually skinny fat. Very low muscle mass and loads of fat in the mid section. People who were considered fat actually had the right amount of body fat and were very muscular. While it is a tool.. it is not really the best tool for every body type. (I still look at it though.. but mostly for fun)
