Feeling AWFUL after exercising

So for a couple of weeks I have been going to the gym [mostly every day, with a few exceptions] and on one day working out until the machine/heart rate monitor says I burned 1000calories. Then, on every other day, I do this until 500calories. The first time I did this, I felt AMAZING afterwards. It was a huge jump from my previous workout plan, but I felt like I needed to really get serious. [I have also been eating fairly healthy--more fruits and vegetables with occasional "bad" foods sprinkled in, but it much smaller portions than before].

Now the problem...I started to find that during my workouts, I would get so thirsty, but when I drank while working out, that would make me feel not so great and even thirstier. So lately, I drink about 10ounces while exercising [for about 45minutes-1.5hours] and hydrate after. For the first couple weeks, I would get that post workout endorphin boost, and feel very accomplished. Now, I feel worse than when I started, and really regret exercising, because then my head aches so bad and I feel dizzy and nauseous. It makes working out a lot more difficult when you know you're going to feel mentally and physically disgusting after. HELP! I don't want my exercise to be in jeopardy!

Thanks for anyone who reads this, or has any possible help!

If your diet calendar is at all a reflection of your eating, you are starving yourself!

Also, why are you pushing yourself so hard with cardio?

I've been eating more lately, too much for me to bother recording it! XD
Cardio seems like the best option for weight loss, I thought anyways. I'm not losing much though, despite all of the cardio. :Z

I feel the same way, quite often. I have a headache, nausea and feel generally yucky after working out. The thing that works best for me is taking a shower immediately after. If I take a cold shower it seems to alleviate the feeling like my heart is trying to pound out my ears, and the sick feelings. And it works for me if I eat some protein soon after getting done. Hope it helps you as much as it does me. Very Happy

Cardio actually doesn't seem to be the best option for weight loss.

Try strength training. When you have more muscles, they burn more energy 24/7, not just when you're working out.

First as noticed by hoser it is likely to be a diet related problem. Your diet log does not seem to be updated but the little that is there does not seem to be anything near a balanced diet with all the nutrients, besides the calories are way to low for a healthy person. Your body aching is just a signal that is sending to you, because probably you are not feeding it right and also are not training properly so it is asking you to stop.
The second issue is probably the training schedule. Achieving 1000 cal burn on the machine is a very rough system.
You should try to alternate strength training and aerobic with at least 1 day off between sessions. Also it is not advisable to train to the limit of exhaustion because in the end you will burn less and not more since the body will shut down and you will burn much less in the 23 hrs a day when you are not training that will overcompensate those calories that you have burned during the exercise. Fast is almost always an enemy of good.

water, water & water. by the time your body tells you its thirsty you are already on the way to dehydration. drink a pint of water before you go to the gym, & have a bottle handy to take little sips during exercise. try to alternate your exercise. i find group training way more motivating then running on my lonesome on a machine!

I agree with the previous posters--you need more fuel and fluid. Sodium levels will mess with you as well (well, they do me, anyway). And just IMHO, that " calorie burn" number on the machines is bunk.

I agree with the other posts Cardio does not really lose weight you need a balanced regime. Slow weight training will burn more. You must have a good well balanced diet. Cardio/aerobic are for stamina and for that you need high carbs. Research the web sites to help you get it right for you.

It's just odd to me, because for about three weeks, the high cardio routine was really working. It was tough, but I felt wonderful after working out and I didn't get so thirsty. I try to eat something small before and then something small after, but I don't really pay much attention to what it is that I'm eating, usually fruit or vegetables, but no attention to the amount of protein or carbohydrates in it.
&yeah, I realize that the amount on the machine is probably quite off, but my heart rate stays at roughly 160-175, so I figure it's not *too* far off.
Even though I understand why weight training is important, etc. I still seem to have the girly attitude of refusing to want to use weights. That's something that I need to work harder to change.
Schmetter- I know water is great, but when I drink while I'm working out, I either get an upset stomach very easily, or the small sips just make me even thirstier. It's a silly problem. I don't really have any option of group training, and I don't mind working out. It's one of those "just do it" things for me. I switch between the treadmill, the elliptical and a stair stepper machine.

I'll try and look into what I can try to eat before and after that may help. Thanks everyone. Smile

It's very important to take care of ourselves when we are performing high intensity exercises, especially while in a calorie deficit. Try eating a little complex carbohydrate at least an hr before your work out so you dont get sick. And rest days are also very important. Your body needs time, as well as proper nutrients to recover from the stress we put it through when we exercise intensly for prolonged periods of time. Usually 24 hrs is all that is needed. If you dont feel like completely resting for an entire day, then shoot for a lower intensity work out, burning only a couple hundred calories, such as a 30 min walk. If we push ourselves too hard w/out taking proper care of ourselves, we'll burn ourselves out. Good luck!

You need to fuel your work out, basically you want to burn calories, and give you body the nutrients it needs to couninue to burn fat reserves after your workout. Try a protein shake 40-30 minutes before your workout add a banners or a potassium supplement at the same time. Then after your workout shower up, kill 30-45 minutes and eat a cup of whole grain rice and 4-6 oz of clean protein like chicken or turkey. You. Need some cards after your work out to encourage your body to continue burning fat reserves otherwise it thinks your starving. The extra protein promotes muscle growth, more muscle more calories burned during workouts!

Hope this helps.

As far as the weights go I will tell you this and this is only from my own experience. You can do cardio forever and your results will be slow if any. Try adding some weights and you will see such a huge difference in both how you feel, your body shape and the weight. It will all come together. You need to be using weights or resistance bands. Take a look at Debbie Siebers slim in 6 and some of her other dvds that include weights. You can start out slow. The kettle bells are also great and fun to do. You will begin to feel powerful. Just my opinion. I went the cardio route and just cardio did not work for me. I was amazed at what happened when I added those weights. Good Luck!!

With that much cardio and your constant intake of water, you need to replenish your system with electrolytes (e.g. gatorade/coconut water/fruit juice).

Not to repeat what everyone else is saying, but in my personal experience I didn't beging to see the results that I wanted until I started conditioning with weights. An hour or more on the elliptical? That is great sometimes, but way too boring!

It sounds like you are serious about committing to a plan and getting this done, so I suggest you take a look at ChaLean Extreme. She will show you that you can lift weights and get the amazing, GIRLY body that you are envisioning. I am thinking about starting it soon, so if you like the sound of it and need a buddy, let me know!!
