Friends and co-workers are commenting on my weight loss as if I've suddenly dropped a bunch. I haven't been dropping any significant weight in a long time because my eating habits are deplorable. I have been exercising regularly and recently added pilates which I think is the best thing ever. It is totally changing my shape. I went through my closet last weekend, pulling things out for a yard sale, and of course trying things on that WERE too small. How can pilates make such a huge difference in such a short time? Anyone else experience this?

Are you taking Pilates at a gym or have a dvd? I'm interested in Pilates, but don't have any where near where I'm at that offers a class and not sure what/who to look for in a dvd. Thanks!

I'm doing it at home using dvd's. I purchased a few of them for variety. I started with Leslie Sansone's "You Can Do Pilates", then I bought the Winsor 3 dvd set which I really like, and I have some of Denise Austins that are okay. I look forward to doing them because it just feels so good. You stretch an lenghthen and the best part is rediscovering your muscles. I haven't seen them in a long time, but I can see them now.

I LOVE Pilates... and yes, Pilates helps change your shape. It's more of a "sculpting" exercise than anything. You will not burn as many calories as you would with aerobic excercise, but you will tone muscle... and having more muscle, you will naturally burn more calories. I also find it gives a mindfulness during the day with my posture (sitting and standing). Here's the best part.. I know I haven't grown in many years, but I actually feel taller...
Keep doing your Hundreds!!!

Busy weekend with ballgames and gone all day, so I'm starting my pilates DVD when I get home from work! I actually am very excited! I did Zumba 4-5 days a week and ended up with bursitis in my hip....after getting shots in my hip 6 weeks ago, tried it again and it flaired up. Doc says 3-6 months of rest for it, so I'm HOPING the Pilates won't be as hard on my joint and I'll actually be able to do something exercise wise!!! Wish me luck....

Hey sandbsmom, i know i dont know you, but what i do know is when you have a hip/knee/etc problem and the doctor says rest for 3 months, you better take his word for it. Pilates can be pretty intense. If i were you i would just focus on being active differently (not sure if you can take walks or swim, depends on your condition and by that i mean problem). Trust me, if anything happens to your hip now you'll just extend the amount of rest-time you'll need.

Thanks dawn297. I will definitely take your advice and listen to my doctor. I was in such extreme pain before I got the shots, I don't want to be there again. I am only 44 years old, Lord knows (hopefully) I have a long life ahead of me, better take care of my body now!!!
I walked 2 miles this weekend and my hip didn't bother me at all, so maybe I can do this for a while before starting the Pilates!

That sounds like a good idea sandbsmom. Walking is one of the best, cheap and safiest execise around.
