Raw honey (try to find a good reliable source, preferably local) is packed with goodies like enzymes, natural antibiotics, vitamins, etc in addition to alas, our favorite fructose. Fortunately only about half of the sugar content in honey comes from fructose. Processed honey is, well, processed - carbs and nothing else. So unless you are allergic to it, it is not such a bad choice if used in moderation. It was also one of the few sources of sugar available to humankind since prehistoric times, so we should be well adapted to eat it in small quantities.

I love honey! Good to know the natural stuff is only half bad. Will def include it when I get out of Induction.

We really shouldn't consider fructose bad since it is a natural substance. It is in both honey and fruit. However we should probably avoid refined or concentrated fructose. Also I've read that molasses is a healthy sweetener.

The problem I'm having is that I cannot have fructose or honey until out of induction. I will resort to artificial sweeteners for now. If I haven't lost any more by the end of 2 weeks, I will have to try and limit them. Ugh.

You know, after reading the steps to make liquid stevia extract it seems easy enough. I just may be crazy enough to try it someday.

Mike,

Funny you mention this. I came across a site last night that had instructions on it. Thanks btw for the Wellness Mama site. It's pretty cool. I came across another one similar, http://thecoconutmama.com/. She cooks a lot with coconut flour and oil.

I want to try Wellness Mama's Crockpot cheesecake and The Coconut Mama's fried zucchini but with pickles! But I'm afraid it will affect my progress. I think I'll wait til I'm down more in weight.

Thank you everyone for keeping this thread going and offering very valuable information and your points of view. We do have so much to learn about the benefits of certain foods, ways of eating, cultural variations, etc. I chose the high fat low protein approach as a way to get started and it was very successful (I also chose that due to many food intolerances and have never felt better). I am at a new phase now and have tweaked my original diet to incorporate lean protein/fish and more veggies. I still keep my net carbs under 20 per day and stay far far away from any wheat product or starchy carb (again, GI issues and allergies). I prefer raw honey if I sweeten anything as opposed to artificial sweeteners.

So, please keep posting info and links so that we all can learn!

Hi all

A general rule of thumb that works well is 75%fat 20%protein 5%carbs
