I guess it should be a compliment, but I never know what to say when people ask, "How much weight have you lost?" I feel like that is personal, but I get asked it at least once a day. Mind you I'm still overweight and need to lose about 30 lbs. to be at the high end of the "normal" range for my height.
I don't know what to tell people when they ask.

So funny, I evade the answer too unless I know them REALLY well. Usually I just lightly say "oh, a little bit" or "Hmmm, about half a cheek" and smack my own butt - but that's just me, ha!

Or I just say "thanks, I have a little way to go but I'm getting there" and smile angelically as if I don't realize I didn't actually answer; sweet & dumb is a good tactic in situations like that.

You're right, though - if people are asking you daily, that's a great testament to your progress! It took almost 40lb before anyone started to notice that I'd lost weight, so you're definitely doing something right. Very Happy

If you don't feel comfortable telling them how many pounds you lost you could tell them the percentage of body weight you lost.

I just hit the 50 lb mark today and I think I am embarrassed to say "50 lbs" b/c that sounds like a lot and since I still have a ways to go.... (I guess basically means admitting that I was seriously obese!!) Maybe I should answer them since that is my reality... Or, maybe 24% of my weight. Hmmm.

Personally, I take it as a compliment. Especially when they say it looks like I've lost more. (I'd like to think I've toned up a bit, too).

If you don't like discussing numbers, just find a fun answer as Lisakp does.

i would just give them a rough answer (which at this point would be 50 lbs) <congrats by the way!... i realized the more i hid my weight from people the less accountable i was about it and i would gain. Once i started being honest about my weight i noticed how much harder i worked to keep it there... i stopped talking about it for a while and my repercussions was being lazy and gaining back some... u should be proud of what you have accomplished and anyone that would come back and say anything about how much u have left is jealous and not a great person... 50 pounds is amazing.. regardless of how much weight u still have to lose.

Just say "A ton". Because that's my favorite thing that people say about me. "Oh my god! You've lost a ton!" No, I didn't lose 2000 pounds, but thanks for noticing. Smile

I think that you should feel comfortable with your weightloss and your accomplishments. Wear it like a badge of honor. You should be proud!

I agree with Losin - be proud of what you've lost - even when there is more to go (at least there is in my case - A LOT more). Personally, I am happy to tell people I've lost almost 60 lbs.

50 lbs is quite the achievement, NCNOLE! Way to go! Regardless of how you decide to handle the responses, you should be proud of what you've achieved so far. Don't diminish your success by jumping into how far you have to go because that's not what important. What's important is that you're doing it! Be proud!

Tell people what YOU feel comfy with. That's all.. I've lost just under 30, (was OVER, but then holidays happened) and I tell them just that. "Just under 30 lbs" Then I hug them, say thanks and beam a little brighter.... Take the compliment, you have definitely EARNED every single pound!

I have a lot of weight to lose and people are just starting to notice and when they mention it I tell them I am fading away to a mere mountain.

I love ( sarcastically!) when someone says " Do you know you've lost a lot of weight?" as though it just fell off without me noticing!?

When I first started to lose I would say I didn't know, but someone on here said that was a bad idea. It seems like a lot of people are supportive of others who are trying to lose. When I said I lost 25 lbs (but I have more to lose) I found my colleagues wanted to cheer me on, which actually helped. It also meant they would stop emailing me every time someone had brought in cake, cookies or other sweets that would ruin my diet. I am not embarrassed to say what I weigh because I am not alone in this; more than half of the population is overweight, but far fewer than that are doing something about it.

Do what feels right for YOU. If saying a number makes you uncomfortable, tell them something like, "I don't know. I'm not weighing myself. It's not about the number." Then maybe they won't ask again. LOL

It makes me sad that some of you guys have lost 40-60 pounds and are not proud of it "because you have so far to go" It almost makes me cry. Look at what you have written! It doesnt matter how far you have to go you have taken the hardest steps and have major progress to show for it! Be proud of it!

I would tell them "I have lost 50 pounds, I feel great and it has really motivated me to keep going, before you know it I have lost 50 more!"

But then I am as proud as can be for loosing 30? pounds (15kg) and will happily tell anyone, I am so proud I did it!
