My sister was disabled as well. She calorie counted using a food tracker and she swam. Went to the Y with someone and swam an hour a day. She was petite as well.

Have you looked into the Atkin's diet? Some people have even been able to reduce or eliminate insulin. It's sensible with carbohydrates in the form of vegetables instead of refined carbs. It controls hunger pangs as well since it keeps your blood sugar from spiking and dropping.

Please, please, please do not do Atkins if you have diabetes!!!! Healthy, balanced meals are best. You can limit your carbs - and choose healthy carbs w/o going on atkins. Maybe see a dietitian to get professional medical advice on dieting.

I have rheumatoid arthritis so excise is pretty much out for me and I use a wheelchair.

Recently I was diagnosed with diabetes, that is early October. I was in hospital and put on a diabetic diet and have been following that ever since. I am losing weight all the time which is fantastic. The menu I follow was given by the dietician at the hospital.

I eat porridge and a soya natural yogurt for breakfast.

Lunch is oily fish and salad or soup, a main course of fish or lean meat, rice/potatoes/pasta or other starchy foods, bread and low fat cheese, a piece of fruit.

Dinner is similar to lunch except I have another plain soya yogurt instead of cheese.

I drink water or herbal teas (I am lactose intolerant.)

I find I am eating more than before!

With this I don't think of biscuits, cakes, chocolate or other sweets. I am allowed one treat a week like a small piece of pie, tart, or cake.

Never cut out carbohydrates they are important to give you long lasting sugars and keep your dextrose levels down.
