you cant get away from counting calories and preferable macros to manage weight over an extended amount of time successfully.

mamacracker, I read the article, I couldn't do that, I will have to stick to my calorie counting. Especially the part where it says to let the brain decide when we are so full because most people keep eating. Also I want to know what is in the portion per serving. So I still have to read my lables which means I will look at the calories. lol

I agree once we know the foods we eat often we never have to calculate. Isn't that the idea to be able to just eat and know we are on track. : )

What he's suggesting is basically to just "wing it". Isn't that how we got to be overweight in the first place? Thanks, but I'll keep my kitchen scale, and count my calories. It works. Definitely works.

I did an "eat till I'm full" day a couple of days ago (admittedly, down the pub with some friends after). 8800 calories, 350% RDI. Since I'm recording my food intake it's easy to adjust what I'm eating after so I don't need to worry about it. If I weren't I'd be wondering when I could start eating again!

The article looks like a sleazy marketing ad between Womans Health Magazine and the two meal delivery companies they named.

Stick to the scale and count those calories for a long enough period of time you know by looking at your plate of food how much is there. You'd be suprised at close you get over time.

WING IT? Exactly what was said earlier. That's how I ended up gaining so much weight. I think I have this internal switch that NEVER shuts off when I'm full.
I'll count calories, learn from my mistakes and keep trying it.

I started sticking with portion sizes, and my stomach shrank back down to a normal size, and I now get fuller on much less than what I used to. And I actually don't count calories, I count sodium and sugar. Since my family has all the weight related illnesses the sodium is actually what is better for me to watch. And considering I've dropped 20.8 lbs in 10 weeks, it must be working, but if it weren't for watching sodium numbers and portions on my food scale, I doubt it would have happened. However, if that article works for you, more power to ya!

I admire you guys that can do it without counting calories! I definitely get fuller on much less food than I need to and have gotten better at identifying when I'm not actually hungry, but I still have a long way to go. One of my problems is that I've always been a fast eater and while I'd like to retrain myself, I often find myself with only a few minutes for dinner before I have to run out the door again. Yes, I know I can change that something else would have to give- like my workout or cleaning up the kitchen before I leave (and when you live alone, that means it stays dirty!) When I get closer to my goal, I do want to experiment with not counting but for the moment, it's a scary thought.

Great article. I'm maintaining my weight this way (and even losing a few bonus pounds!). I don't read labels... I basically don't buy anything with a label Wink. I eat when I feel hungry and stop when I start to feel full. Calorie counting worked great, but once I knew portions sizes and what to eat, it wasn't necessary anymore. If you eat a lot of veggies and fruits, you feel fuller all the time. 7 months without calorie counting & loving life.

I can easily eat 3000-4000 calories a day. And most of it fast food or junk. I wasn't joking when I said there's a broken switch inside me. I'll eat and eat and will only realize I'm full when I'm in pain or feel sick from the amount of food I've eaten.

I eat fast. VERY fast it's something I have to work on. I live a VERY hectic life. I run my own business, Have three little girls (13, 9 & 6), Have Girl Scouts, Band practices (which I have to drive an hour both ways to pick my daughter up from), Hockey, etc. So eating on the go has become a norm at least for the last two years. Ever eat a Whopper going 110km on the highway? You can't hide that stuff once you get home and you're wearing it. lol

I have to count calories I can't wing it. Impossible for me. Maybe one day when I get used to it or I've had my switch fixed can I try to do something so courageous Very Happy

Calorie counting repaired my switch Smile. Keep at it everyone. But have faith that you can learn to listen to your body again in time )

I hope I can get to that point K8yk.. Right now I can't be trusted around too much. I crave and crave.. but have found that when I'm craving what I want most (sweets) and grab and apple (granny smith preferably) it takes the craving away.. I also had two spots yesterday where I could have had chocolate and was craving it but instead I had some yogurt and some harvest crunch.. Much lighter in fat and filling.. Smile I have to learn to control the need to scarf a bag of cookies in one sitting. I can do IT!!! haha
