I'm sorry for being totally selfish here. I was just wondering if I'm 5'3 and around 170lbs, which is pretty awful. I'm huge. How much weight would I have to lose to be "healthy"? Thanks!

Hey Shmeggles,

The good news is you are only a pound away from being out of the obese range. A healthy range for your height would be between 104 and 140 if I remember correctly. I am the same height so that is how I know. My goal is 130 and I am 47 years old.

Merry leeway, yep, you are correct. There are some variables. There is a great formula online ( I don't remember where) that can help. Right now, I would tell you to put the scale away...far, far away. It is going to mess with your head. Ask yourself this, " do I care what I weigh, or do I care how I look and feel?" so if your clothes get baggy and you look fit and trim will you be mad if you don't weigh 110? Please say no!

You didn't get heavy or unhealthy in a few months, please don't try to undo it in a few months. Slow and steady.....reasonable, healthy weight loss with muscle gain.

Good luck and don't ever ever give up. This journey takes a lifetime.

I've definitely been in your shoes. I'm 5'2 and the heaviest weight I reached was 176. I felt awful because clothes just didn't fit the way I wanted them to and I wasn't able to run or be active for longer periods of time. I got myself all the way down to 143 lbs by following Weight Watchers, but once I quit I gained almost all of my weight back. I'm currently at about 160 and my goal is to get to 145, since that seemed to by my body's happy weight when I was active and eating healthy.

Anyways, I'm here if you need somebody to talk to Smile I definitely feel like I currently need to put the scale away and simply focus on a healthy diet and exercise Smile

I am 5ft 4in tall and my ideal weight is between 110 and 145 ,now thats a huge gap ,I agree with the above comment that your best bet is to go by how you look and feel not a number ,but i understand wanting to have something to go off of this is an excellent site ,it gives you the ideal weight from several calculations along with what people the same height weight and age feel is their ideal weight.
