looking for some fellow military wives to buddy up with. that know the life and we can help eachother stay on track. or anyone that may like to buddy up to talk, vent, keep eachother accountable for our health choices. its pretty lonely up here at Fort Wainwright Alaska.

Hi xLyssx,

I do understand that the military experience is something that very few of us civilians can really understand without living through it - but maybe you shouldn't limit yourself to just being buddies with another military wife...most everyone on this site is struggling with some food issue or another - or we wouldn't be here.

i agree, was just hoping i may find a few ladies in my exact boat- for lack of a better reference Smile totally agree. i am just having a very hard time. very unfamilar surroundings up here in fairbanks alaska. being from the sunny south, this negative 40 degree weather, topped off with no sun what so ever has really got me troubled. i love hiking , sure as heck can't do that right now. i'm very motivated , just out of my element up here. thank you for your reply!

I worked on the DEW line, a string of radar stations on the Artic circle, many years ago. I can relate to the lack of sunshine, I would sleep ten hours or more a day and wake up not knowing if it was morning or evening. One very cold day I went for a walk but didn't dress for it and half way thru I could feel my legs starting to tingle as the cold sunk in and so decided to take a short cut up a hill. I was going as fast as I could as I didn't want to get frostbite and halfway up the hill my throat closed up as I was taking in too much cold air. I made it all right but it was a bit scary. Finding a gym is really your only option for excerise, you might meet some like minded people there as well. Come summertime you will get the opposite with 24 hours of sunshine but watch out for the mesquitos.

Hi! I am not a military wife (hubby is ex-military) but I live and work on a military base so I can understand what your challenges can be. Military life can have lots of sudden changes so I can see why it's tough to stay on track. I live in Manitoba where the winters are usually an average of -25... not quite Alaska but close! lol

Thanks to you guys for your kind replies. Yes I've joined a gym, am trying my hardest to stay on track. Today was -25 haha so that was a "warm" up LOL But yes this winter is brutal. I have been here since August and put on 25lbs without even trying. Wasn't "pigging out" < just lack of exercise from being cooped up indoors. Not my style. But thank you guys so much for the reply. I guess not many military wives get on sites like these. Problem is their always complaining about gaining weight! lol..well enough of that for now hehe. take care guys!
