I wish this wasn't as much of a "secret."

Not a thing at all wrong with it, but obviously politics and religion are HOT topics, and unless people are willing to open a big can of worms it should be left alone.

I believe what made this an explosive post was the "extended" explanation to the question. If the answer had been " As a christian my faith sustains ME..." I would have taken the post just as that. If was when the person decided to "open the door of the church" and seem to imply that her method is the ONLY way that I considerd the post out of bounds.
Many of us have faith, some less conventional than others. I RESPECT everyone but please....don't "invite" me into your personal faith.

Why don't you just use your spine and decline the invitation instead of being totally offended? Like, if you know what your beliefs are, then stand up for yourself and say, "I don't beleive that." That's showing you are sure of who you are and don't need me to apologize for the invitation. Seriously.

IMO, there's really nothing wrong with being Christian or thinking that God is your way to happiness. However, the way she said it, practically ramming it down everyone's throat and saying that they only way to happiness was through Jesus and that she hoped they would find Jesus is inappropriate for this site. When she starts talking about what others should do, she's no longer talking about what works for her, but being a self-righteous pain in the ass.

sliMer... interesting name. anyways, it's internet. I didn't shove my way into your door posting crosses all over the place. Don't be offended. (no one seems to like to respond to this part) USE YOUR SPINE AND SAY "COOL, I DON"T BELEIVE THAT." Someone humor me and do that instead of saying,
"Ugh! Omg, that is totally inappropriate. I can't beleive you said that! Ugh, like, I really feel offended now- even though it was under secrets to a good life. Geez, totally just rammed that down my throat. Ugh! OMG!"

I'm not Christian.
I'm not offended.
I'm actually Pagan...more specifically I follow a path of Native American Spirituality.
I find peace and wisdom in nature.
That's what my secret is.
What's yours?

At the root of all conflict there is a lack of dialogue. I'm glad to see that people are sharing their beliefs and values...because often that is where a "common ground" can be reached, rather than focusing on "differences". Keep sharing the positive effects of your belief system on your life (regardless of what that value system is) and it may inspire or help others to share theirs and together we can overcome obstacles and problems we face because human beings are the same no matter where they are born and raised or what they believe in.

Anyone else want to ADD THEIR SECRETS FOR A GREAT LIFE?!?!??
Rather than knocking or complaining about the ones they've read?
STOP
Enjoy a sunset
Enjoy a child's laughter
Enjoy the smell the freshly cut grass
Pet the dog and see how they just love you
Count your blessings
Things could always be worse...even if it seems impossible

My Secrets for a great life ...
The ramblings of a mad woman!
Always make time in your life for your friends.....
Regardless of 'How long it's been' a true friend will be overjoyed to hear from you...
Talk about past glories, funny stories and things you'd thought no-one else remembered.
Never apologise for who you are ....
Surround yourself with the people that love you, and the things that you love.
I personally find no solice in organised religion, but always keep hope in your heart and be open to ideas (as ideas are like beliefs ... but with no rules attached!)

what I find interesting about this discussion is that people don't seem to be as offended when we hear the "f" word spoken in public as they are to hear someone be enthused about their faith in God. To me that seems a little skewed. Could it be perhaps that hearing about God makes them feel guilty because they know they are not living in alignment with His word, hm-m-mmmm? Just a thought...

Before people judge those of use that don't believe in God or organized religion, please take into account that many of us have had negative experiences with friends and family that have judged us or pushed their religion onto us.
My bestfriend (of 15 years) was told by her mom that we weren't allowed to be friends because I didn't attend church and because my parents were divorced... fast forward 11 years or so and her parents are now divorced, and a few years later she gives up her religion and beliefs so that she can marry a man of a different religion.
I once received a christmas card from a person that I thought was a really good friend telling me that she cared a lot about me but was sorry to know that I would be going to Hell, Merry Christmas.
It may also be that people are unhappy about the things that occur around the world and historically because of religion. Many atrocities were commited in the name of organized religion.
While I do not believe in God, I do believe in living with acceptance of others, leaving as little negative impact on the world as possible, and trying to live well.
I don't like having religion pushed on me because I don't push my lack of religion on anyone else. Please understand that I am not saying that religion is not right for anyone who reads this because I do think that if it is what you need in life that it is a good thing
for you
, but that doesn't make it right for everyone.
