CPAP

I've been recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. My doctor is putting me on CPAP. I should have it by the end of the week.

I just started my diet and workout and want to get to 180 from 253. My chest x-ray was great and my breathing tests seem normal. He feels that losing weight (not saying how much) could eventually get me off the machine.

I just wonder what to expect. I didn't feel incredibly different the day after using CPAP with my last sleep study. I know I didn't get a full nights sleep but I guess I'm asking what can I expect immediately. I want to know the good, the bad, and/or the unexpected things that you experienced with it.

I appreciate the responses.

Sometimes it takes a few days to adjust to sleeping with a CPAP, but when I first got mine, after that adjustment I began feeling stronger and more energized. It has been many years and this year I was beginning to feel more tired and weak again. Dr just upped my pressure on the CPAP so after adjustment again, I should start to feel much better. Using the CPAP can help with weight loss also because your body doesn't have to hold the fat working to keep you awake and alive.

After a while of being on CPAP, you will notice a difference, especially if you have to sleep without your CPAP (power outage, etc). I have found after 6 years of using CPAP that I realy need to make sure I get cardio exercise in - to keep my lungs functioning well on thier own.
I love my CPAP and my goal is to not have to use it when I lose my extra weight - but at the same time I am scared to lose it Smile

I am also on a Cpap. I never felt tired before it BUT my wife noticed that I sometimes sounded like i was without breath for a few seconds. SO when I went in for my sleep test I have great levels of oxygen in my blood but I was a chronic snorer. The doctor told me that once I lost weight I would not have to use the cpap. I have been on it for about two plus years. It definately helps me sleep better and the wife gets a great night sleep without me snoring. On the occasion I didn't use a CPAP i woke up with a sore throat which is indicative of snoring. Use the CPAP and then when you lose the weight you can stop its use.
