I am struggling with dieting as I constantly want to eat or snack. Even when I'm not hungry. Anyone have any suggestions?

emotional eating is an addiction to food similar to those to other substances like nicotine and drugs.
It is difficult to give advice because the first step to build up your inner motivation must come from yourself there is nobody else that can force you to take action. Once you have made the first step then there are quite a few tools that can help starting from support groups online and probably even better offline.

In terms of snacking there are a lot of low calories option to keep snacks under control but they are all useless if you do not take action first and decide to put an end to the cycle. WebMd has quite a few interesting articles and slideshows: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/snack-attack

Before i was on a diet i ate food when i wasn't even hungry like you. I wasn't an emotional eater i just love the taste of food. Now i chose my health reather then stuffing myself with candy. You should snack on vegetables with a little cottage cheese or something like that. That will keep you full and doesn't have a lot of calories. You definetly should forget about soft drinks. That is just sugar in water. Drink diet drinks or tea without sugar, that's much better for you.

Drink water or rite drinks. When your done drinking drink some more. Staying hydrated is key. Eat low calorie food.. air popped popcorn, apples, etc.

Not eating food is so dull. Being on a diet is so boring. Once you know what you should be eating and when you should stop, I would suggest getting some other interests to go to when it's time to stop having food. Do your best to turn your attention to other matters. Get some hobbies, take a class. Make food a smaller part of your life.

The only thing I can suggest is that you track your food down to the last mouthful and then you'll see it in black and white and realise that what you're eating isn't worth it. I know! I find if I've not eaten much but made bad choices (like I did myself yesterday) the calories mount up and you can see that what you've had really needs changing if you want to lose those pounds and inches.

What souizzea said is right. You should find other things where you will focus your attention so that you will not think about eating.

So true! When I have a full day working on activities that keep my interest, I actually forget about eating. And I'm not hungry, until I get home in the evening, then one large dinner is all I need.

Without being able to see what you are eating, it's tough to give advice, but I'm guessing that you are new to the site.

We all want to lose weight as quickly as possible, but in order for that to happen, you still have to eat enough on your diet to sustain yourself. Depending on how tall and how heavy you are, you made need to eat more calories in a day than you might think. The fact that you are eating in a way that seems uncontrollable to you suggests the possibility that you are simply not eating enough.

Use the tools and charts here to track what you would normally have eaten before you decided to go on a diet. From there you can start to make decisions about what foods you want to add or subtract from your diet and where you might want to modify the portion sizes. Trying to change everything all at once is nearly impossible, but changing one or two things at a time, getting used to that routine for about a month, and then changing something else will get you to where you are trying to go. You won't see rapid weight loss that way, but you will gradually drop at a rate that is comfortable and sustainable.

I know how that is. Eating out of boredom or stress can be a pain. When I've been successful in the past, it was due to curbing what I ate between meal and I just stayed busy. Drinking water and having snacks between meals were a key. Those snacks, though, were limited. A handful of almonds or snack mix works for me. One thing though, never snack out of a bag unless it was a predetermined portion size. Drink plenty of water. A lot of time, thirst is mistaken for hunger. Have a lot of fruits and vegetables around. Some diets have them a non food that doesn't count against you, but again, watch what you dress them up with.

Not everyone is the same, so it may take some time to find what works for you, but you'll figure it out. Eat the right snacks and keep yourself busy so you don't think about eating.

I recommend the books Women, Food & God, and A Course in Weight Loss. These books get to the root of the issues you are describing.
