Induction Contradictions

Let me start by saying how much I appreciate all the support and ideas I have received. With that said, I am left feeling more confused than ever. There are too many contradictions regarding induction, I don't know what to do. The book says limit artifical sweeteners, I have heard, stay away. Use the Atkins products suitable for phase 1, stay away from the products. Drink coffee and caffine, stay away from coffee and caffine, eat more calories, restrict your calories, cut back on fats, don't be afraid of fat, stay away from cheese, eat 3 - 4 oz. a day, limit your flaxseed, eat MIM's, and the list goes on. The only consitant thing i have heard, is drink more water. So other than eating an egg for breakfast, a large salad with RANCH dressing for lunch, and fish or chicken for supper with a few veggies, what other options do I have?

Ive been on atkins for around 6 weeks now. What I try to do is eat around 1500 calories a day, and if its not with the net carbs then I try find things full of fat to get me there. Olive oil, butter, cream cheese, I found carb free mozzarella string cheese. I do count my sweetener (truvia). I try to only use 1 but no more than 2 of them a day. I have heard that it can stall you. I do have a shake and sometimes a bar a day...but same thing, if you are stalled that may be why. Its very touch and go Ive noticed, and I think everyone is different and youll have to find what works best for you. I hope this helps Smile

Dinner: Chicken, salmon, or steak with veggies, tacos either in a lettuce wrap or as a salad, chicken fajitas in a lettuce wrap, steak sandwhich in a lettuce wrap, cauliflower lasagna. You can pretty much make a wrap out of anything!
Dessert: Cheesecake squares (recipe on this site), flowerless cookies/brownies, sugar free anything!

This is what I have found so so so satisfying, theres a limit to everything though, make sure you are measuring everything and do minimal excersise to burn calories so that you can eat more! This site has alot of recipes and good tricks! I wouldnt base everything on the book or what people say...stick with the number of carbs youre allowed in a day and go with that. I dont pay much attention to fat, my main focus is carbs (starch + sugar). Good luck!!!!

Hi Kim

I think most people tell you based on their personal experience.
It took me a year to realize that Wethers "no sugar added, and Splenda did not work for me.

I switched to Stevia 2 months ago.
I would also stay away from "anything" packaged including Atkins.
Personally I have not found coffee to be a problem and personally I do not drink much more water if more at all.

I cont'd with my 6-10fat % plain healthy no gelatin just the milk stuff yogurt and still do. I also eat cheese in small bits.
I eat one large salad with 3 good tbsp of hi fat zero/low carb dressing and often extra olive oil.

for lunch i often add egg/salmon/salad or a all beef jumbo frankfurter (not weiner) as much as I feel like eating.

make that 2 eggs fried with bacon or sausage or both for breakfast.
keep the fat level up and it will get you through.
for the first while eat as much protein and fat as you want or every time you are hungry eat something fatty. mims are good because they are mostly fat and a bit of protein with a lot of fiber.

I am starting very low carb again last week after my 3rd off the cart binge on wheat products.
I am now convinced the stricter you are with anything processed such as artificial sweetners/atkins meal bars etc..the sooner you will adapt and the cravings are batter managed. Keep the carbs down the fat hi!! that is what it has taken me a year to learn.

to some extent you have to do what makes sense to you and trust your own knowledge. eveyone is different. it is definitely a learning experience and the more you read and learn the better prepared you will be to make changes that suit you.

I felt I could add a little wheat or grain now and then..but every time I do it completely sabotages me. [Read Wheat Belly by Davis..google him.
thank fully i have always loved fat and fatty foods so this time that is my saviour and am fully embracing a high fat diet. tomorrow I am adding coconut oil to my diet.

and their is a wealth of info in the Primal/Paleo diet models..do read them and add those tidbits of info.
Most do acknowledge tkins was on the money..but their is always room for a bit of adaptation..so find what works for you and keep at it. Smile

I do not know why you chose Atkins..I did because it made sense to me. That said it is not entirely dogma. .I read Gary Taubes Good Calories Bad Calories and have continued research.

The point is an overall better and healthier you..not sticking precisely to a formula. The book is a guide and the forula one that most will suceed with IF they can manage it. If not they will not suceed..so..YOU will suceed if you do what it takes for you to "fit into" that diet concept..LOW..VERY LOW carb..hi fat..med/hi protein.

If it means eating a MIM each and every day..do it!!

When you say high fat, how much are you consuming a day?

mine depends on the day, i range from 68 to 120. I think its probably better to be on the higher end, I just dont know what the limit should be..this is another one of those things that youll have to play around with and see what works best for you

Kim
sofar today i have had 159 g of fat. I will likely have another fat snack soon.
30 net carbs and 62 protein. I find protein the hardest to keep up another 10 g might be better but I feel fine at this level and I do like the paleo thinking (much like how I feed my dogs) an average over time is more important than a precise daily qty.
ie if i eat 80 g P tomorrow and 55 day after and still feel good that is ok. it does not have to be exactly 77 g of p each and every day.
I have not recorded in my diary for a long time but started again today.
Yesterday I am sure I had close to 200g of fat which I think triggered ketosis after a week back on very low carb as I peed all night and all day today. my few days of foggi head and lethargy are replaced by energy today.

Calorie Breakdown Today for 1770 calories:
Carbohydrate (7%)
Fat (79%)
Protein (14%)
based on RDI 1770 calories which I dont pay much attention to. actual intake 1816- close enough.

which is pretty good..and more importantly "comfortable" and still in ketosis.
just a note..i have eaten a lot of fat-hi fat most of my life..my problem came with also eating a lot of sugar and grain.

If you are not used to hi fat or have been on low fat..go slow.
do not jump from 60-150g of fat in one day. it can easily make you nautious if too much.

just add a bit more butter to your eggs an extra slice of bacon..a tsp more of olive oil a bit more each day and don't panic if day is over or under.
