Fedaykin's right. Changes in actual body fat aren't linear, and do not happen as fast as the daily fluctuations in transient mass - water, glycogen, foods that are still being digested. If you're not gaining or losing very quickly, it can be hard to tell if you're gaining or losing at all, in fact.

Here's a chart of what roughly 4 pounds in weight gain looks like, if you take two months to do it:

The black trendline that Excel added is pretty much my "real" weight. The blue line is what the scale says. They don't intersect all that often. Still, you can see that the peaks and valleys increased at the same rate.

It's frustrating, but the scale is not a reliable indicator of progress or body fat. Unfortunately, patience is needed to watch the long-term trends.

Thanks Fedaykin & Nimm - I guess I just do not know what I am doing and I am starting to give up. I have been working out since the end of March and trying to watch what I eat since then too and I am getting no where.

I found your problem. You are "trying" to watch what you eat. Don't try, just do it! Smile I know, I know, easier said than done, but I absolutely swear by logging all of my food. Like NCNOLE said, it is really easy to have a distorted perception of how much you are actually eating when you are not logging it.

Someone who is busier than you is working out right now.

Im not losing either and I am doing all the right things, exercise 3x wk for the past 4wks and induction the last 3wks, down 2lbs today but who knows tomorrow. The exercise is 100% more than I was doing before and I thought for sure I would be dropping significant weight doing both programs. Do both aerobic and strength exercise along with stretching. I know that muscle is more dense and therefore takes up less space than fat (1lb of fat is smaller than 1lb of muscle) but I am not going down in size either. This is just depressing, Im actually sad, but I will continue. I just hope there are results soon.

You can't out-exercise a bad diet. If you are eating too much, you may not see any weight loss. Yes, exercise is very good and I am a huge proponent of an active lifestyle, but it won't make up for eating junk or too many calories. On the flip side, if you are doing all of this activity and not eating enough, your body may be holding onto that weight for dear life.. If you are sure that you are consuming a healthy amount/type of food and you are exercising, the weight WILL come off, stay strong and keep at it.

Hey, good luck and I hope it all works out for you Smile I have'nt read every comment so this could have been covered but I just wanted to say it's not a good idea to cut your calories lower then recommended (for weight loss) because you will only 1. end up losing muscle 2. possible gain weight as your body fights to hold onto some sustainance. A lot of people think cutting their cals will mean losing faster but as with everything in life, there aren't really any short cuts when it comes to weight loss Smile Keep going, hopefully you'll figure out what is going on. Cheers
