Atkins & Increased LDL
thanks so much for all this info. there was great advice both places. and after reading and speaking to my doc, i'm going to stick with atkins but tweak the diet. i'm going to eat more chicken/fish and a little less beef and eggs I think. i'm adding benefiber for fiber to my drinks and limit my bacon and see how that works out... maybe too much of a good thing isn't so good :) i hope after another 3 months my cholesterol will level out b/c this diet seems to work best for me,esp the lack of carb cravings!

Atkins & Increased LDL
thanks all. i did post at atkins.com and got some really good info there too. still waiting for colette to respond, but the community there and here stated much the same and it makes sense. I'm going to revisit this with my doc and hopefully buy another month or two since my heart is one of my better organs :) i'll start looking at the cholesterol counts but i don't know about phony eggs!

Atkins & Increased LDL
I've been on Atkins for 3+ weeks and been doing pretty well. I've stayed in Induction and did not deviate from plan. I had my bloodwork done and my LDL skyrocketed! Doc said if he were just seeing me, he'd put me on cholesterol medicine immediately! However, he knew I was on Atkins recently and said I had to change up whatever is causing the LDLs to increase. I'd like to stay on Atkins, but I wonder if there are some proteins I need to stop eating (like eggs everyday!) or fats that can help remedy this situation. Someone suggested South Beach but I'm pretty invested in this diet, however, not to the extent of having to take a pill! Also, has anybody experienced this as well?

stuck
liv001, thanks so much for reaching out and giving me advice. I think i need to reduce atkins products to 1 or none a day. been using them as easy grab and go...will keep on trucking :) hope you have a great football/baseball/fun day!

stuck
I started Induction 9/13 and after the first week I lost 7 lbs. Great. I got past the worst of it and felt energized. Since the 20th, I lost 1.5 lbs and feel stuck. It's almost 3 week s and I have not cheated at all. As a matter of fact I've been under in carbs. I feel tired so I think it may be that i'm not eating enough, but now I find I'm not hungry. My diet calendar is posted if anyone has any ideas. My inches haven't changed and I guess for such a stringent diet I thought I'd be able to lose more while feeling better doing it.

1 Foot In The Grave, but the other foot isn't ready yet
Hi Other Foot. If you search COPD you will find others with the condition. I'm not sure that's yours, but you can search anything. I have COPD as well, which is why I know. I was surprised to see people here with my medical issue and it is comforting to a degree in that we all have meds, lack of exercise and breathing capability which further frustrates the weight loss program. I am involved in a pulmonary rehab program 3x/week and that works great for me. Perhaps you can ask your doctor if there's one he/she can suggest. They have oxygen there and therapists who take pressure/o2 levels while you work out. Good luck

New kid on the block
I'm so surprised to see people with COPD/respiratory conditions here, altho i don't know why since losing weight and being more active will help us all breathe a little better. I have COPD and I know that between my meds, my worsening condition and my lowering activity level due to my condition helped to add on the pounds. Today is my 10th day in Induction w/Atkins and I feel really good...and motivated...one day at a time tho....I am going to a pulmonary rehab gym so I do the treadmill and weights 3x/week. The idea is to do what you can.

Need Atkins buddies
Hi All. 03sunshine unless there's another mmeyers, i only lost 6.5lbs this week (which was my first week on induction) ...but heck, that's AMAZING for me. this was the end of my first week of induction and altho it's probably water weight, i haven't lost weight in a LONG, LONG time. I even gained my last 10 lbs on WW! so, I think I'm gonna put that scale in the closet because I know i stayed at this weight for the last 3 days :) and i'll get myself crazy if i obsess over the day-to-day.

Need Atkins buddies
Hi! I'm really new here too, and I've been in Induction since Tuesday. Still working through the diet and the websites, here and Atkins.com. Love the support. For me, i thought giving up my daily evening wine would be my biggest problem, but i haven't really missed it (well, maybe a little!)...It's just an observation...one day at a time, b/c tonite I may eat those words :) Anyway, would love to be part of this group...I have 40 lbs to lose.

Question on the Calendar and Atkins
Thanks 83JEN. I think you may be right, but it's hard being open on this topic! Meanwhile, I tried to find preferences, and I didn't see it. This is only my second day on this site so i'll get better at navigating. However, any help will be appreciated.

Question on the Calendar and Atkins
WOW liv001! You can see my meal diary? That is too much information I'm putting out there! What else is showing, I didn't mean to share that much info! However, thanks for the input. I'll check preferences. You know, I manually totaled my carbs and came to 20 with all the subtracting. Can you explain how you got to 15? I'd like that b/c I'd definitely hit up a bar or a shake if I had anything left especially since I felt like I needed something last nite. Thanks for the info on the proteins/fat. I was confused from reading some posts saying that they had x% fat/x% protein/x% fat when going over their daily meals. I think I'm still at Atkins 101 and I should digest (no pun intended!) what I'm learning my first week. Thanks for your help.

Question on the Calendar and Atkins
I started Induction 9/13 and have been doing pretty well...got past the fatigue, but last night I found I was really hungry and water wasn't doing it. Someone suggested I put my meals for the day in the diet calendar on this site and i did. I realized I ate 800 calories under what my RDI was, but my carbs were at 21, which is +1 for induction. What my question is how do I understand if I met the fat/protein requirements or if they were off too? I think I'm reading too much that I'm getting myself confused! Thanks for the help !

I'm reading this while eating some absolutely delightful fresh melon for breakfast. If the melon isn't soft enough on its own you could add it to a fruit smoothie.
