Meds/ prescription drugs that make you tired?
My meds made me gain weight, (20#!). One med in particular caused the midnight munchies. I'd crave sweet junk food. I have had some success with throwing out the junk, drinking tea with stevia, or stevia sweetened drinks like vitamin water zero or sobe life water (all 0 calories). Fruit is also a great alternative. A couple of dates (delicious carmely treat) is like eating candy. Be careful of midnight snacking though, your body's metabolism slows 3 - 4 hours before bed, and eating foods can easily turn to fat. Try drinking stevia sweetened drinks. Talk to your doc about changing the time you take your meds & let them know of the side effects you are experiencing. Hope this helps! Cheers!

What are some Whole Grain Foods?
Quinoa is delish, & a complete protein. It has a lovely snappy mouth feel, and is a great substitute for couscous or rice. I love to eat quinoa in a tabouleh salad. Cheers! - dangerrr

Artificial Sweeteners
I searched "Truvia" and found: Truvia is expensive for what it is. It's also hyper mfr'd in my opinion. It's made to look like sugar, but doesn't last as long as other stevia alternatives. I like trader joe's organic stevia - without the filler. it's more expensive, & looks small, but all it takes is a tiny sea-monkey sized scoop to sweeten a LARGE cuppa. I had a jar last for MONTHS. Just little scoops of stevia powder, straight up, organic. peace & love, - d

Artificial Sweeteners
artificial sweeteners turn to FORMALDEHYDE as they metabolize. that's right. they turn to death poison. fabulous. the chemists who developed the artificial sweeteners won't even touch the stuff. it took 8 times for aspartame to be approved by the FDA, even then only for dry goods. even the National Soft Drink Assn didn't want to allow the stuff in their products. (Freedman, R. and Barnouin. Skinny Bitch. Philadelphia: Running Press, 2005. pp. 32-38. ) one alternative is raw/organic agave nectar. it has a low-glycemic index, and is low cal. ima stevia grrrl myself, but if you're against it, try agave. cheers - d

night snacking
one of my meds gave me the midnight munchies & slowed my metabolism. double whammy! luckily i'm now taking a medication that puts me straight to bed, so i don't end up snacking. maybe try planning your late-night cravings & replace with healthy foods & pre-portioned snacks. mashed cauliflower is REALLY delicious, especially with lots of garlic. i make mine vegan, supposedly nutritional yeast tastes cheesey. i've cut back on my snacking by planning everything i eat & portioning out my meals in advance. if you like ice cream (i mean, really?! silly ?) try soy delicious chocolate. a pint is about $5 @ yr local market, so it really makes you 1: appreciate, 2: limit portions to a spoon or two. this stuff is amazing. made with coconut milk (not soy) & agave nectar (low-glycemic), about 160 cals for 1/4 of the pint. not bad compared to ben & jerry's. you can get a coupon at turtlemountain.com , i HIGHLY recommend the chocolate flavor, it's my fav. i also portion out pre-cut fruit, cucumbers, even salad mix (no dressing) for snacking. mmmmm. herbs & lettuce are so tasty. better than chips! ooooh, try kale chips too. they're really easy to make. message me for a quick recipe. peace & love, - d

Help - Can't get enough calories!!
i was eating 300 cals a day and stopped loosing weight. it really pissed me off, until i realized that i was probably in starvation mode. now i'm trying to eat more reasonably and loose weight sustainably. nice work being conscious of the deficit. it's something i need to work on. i had 600 cals today, twice what i was eating before. i was snacking all day on fruit & veg. check out william sheldon's proven diet of eating for your body type. there's a quiz you can take: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fu... to help you figure out the best way for you to eat well. i am re-reading skinny bitch. i want to be a skinny bitch, not an anorexic bitch. it's all about making good choices & balance. peace & love

Vegetarian Meals
Check out the featuring recipes, tips, and lots of info. Some of my fav veggie recipes are: Black Bean (and corn) salad, portabella mushroom pizza, mashed cauliflower (veggie style), and lightly pan fried tofu with caramelized onions. leafy green veggies have a lot of protein as well. quinoa is a complete protein. Forks Over Knives is an awesome movie, and Skinny Bitch or Skinny Bastard are great books and a real wake-up call about what and how you eat. Michael Pollan also has some wonderful books about food and the industrialized food system. cheers! - dangerrr

weigh in
Good luck! I weigh in every day which has to stop. It is too easy to get caught up in the excitement of seeing the scale drop so much in a week-that is because of water weight I am sure.
