How Often Do you weigh yourself?
once a day after morning shower. more data points = better, but I don't fret about fluctuations. I can move up or down 5# a day easy just with normal fluid volume variatio9n. Plot out the curve and watch the trend line.

Sweating at the gym
+1 to all above comments. Living in hot, humid Fla, I grew up thinking sweating is normal. My Minnesota bred-wife can't stand sweating , even at the gym! Consequently, I handle ALL outside chores!

starvation mode
exercise works.and realize we usually underestimate our Kcals in and over estimate our Kcals expended. go work as a commercial beekeeper, or better yet as a beeks' helper. I used to work hard in the hot and humid Florida sun, in a beesuit (or two for some nasty jobs). heat exhaustion was a big deal. never failed to lose weight, and fast. In fact by July, had probs maintaining enough weight! In winter I'd easily add 2o pounds, mainly b/c i maintained the same Kcal intake.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
daily. more data is a good thing as it makes a more accurate trend graph. just don't mind the daily ups and downs

2013 vs 2012
Agree 2+ w/ sure and paperiniko. It's good to reward one self. Holidays should be enjoyable, and that includes eating some goodies one normally doesn't. The cool thing, is that I now find myself eating fewer 'goodies' when I allow myself to eat more, such as this Fall's college football saturdays. I just don't feel the need to stuff myself as i did pre-diet.

weight stuck despite dieting
p- how do you suggest to monitor fat %? And that's great advice about not being concerned with weight fluctuations. I record my weight every AM, and see huge swings, sometimes 5-6 pounds! But "ain't no thang" :-)

Anyone lower sodium TOO much?
Since I've started my diet, I've been very careful to lower my sodium intake, or rather more specifically, to try to boost my Potassium:Sodium ratio to a desired 4:1 or more. I'm doing this to better regulate my blood pressure, and partly to aid cellular membrane functions, per Richard Moore: ..author of The Salt Solution & The High Blood Pressure Solution. Anyway, for the last couple of days, I've had some symptoms of low blood sodium, aka hyponatremia,: nausea, headache, confusion, lethargy, fatigue, appetite loss, restlessness and irritability, muscle weakness & cramps. I attributed it to my weaning off of Cymbalta, since it's pretty well known to cause similar fx, and it's pretty difficult to cause Hyponatremia just by reduced sodium intake. Just for giggles, and since I was at Sam's club waiting for a tire replacement, I sampled several of the prepared food samples that I usually shun, (mainly because of the high sodium). Lo & behold, I started feeling better! Not great, but better. Might have been my head-games, but I wonder, has anyone else experienced Hyponatremia by lowering dietary sodium TOO much??? btw, I have found that many foods do not list Potassium in nutritional data. Very, very frustrating!! grrr:evil:

kiwi skin
Triples the fiber intake?? wow! Sure would be nice to have the USDA database updated to show that. I try to eat 2-3 a day, that must really up my fiber/day.

kiwi skin
I know it's like a cat's tongue, all hairy-like, but is it just me, or does anyone else eat the skin of kiwi fruit? I figure it's got to be nutritious, as it's usually very sour, and bound to be full of fiber...right?

Wheatgrass Shots - Experiences?
I saw red wheat 5# bags on Amazon for ~10$ I believe you sprout them and juice them up. I'll check my health food/grocery store and see what they sell the bulk for. Nutritionally, I'd expect that to be about as good as it gets, certainly better than powder.

Nature vs. Nurture
It is a fact of life that we tend to underestimate what we eat and overestimate what we do, that is why the journal is such a powerful tool.
Should be considered a FS Maxim!! For me, I **think** that I do pretty well with the foods consumed, but am often way off on Kcals expended in ativities. It's no big deal, as it's rare for an individual to push oneself as hard as needed. Hence the need for coaches.. one that will keep you driving, hitting hard, sweating and enduring through pain. For example look at Tom Cruise, in fantastic shape at 50-ish. He can afford to pay trainers to keep him on task and drive him harder than he ever would individually. Myself, I have found that when I'm working in the field every day, I expend so much energy, that it's difficult to keep weight on!. My field work was intense, I wore an exposure suit in 90-120F degree humid environments, expending a lot of effort. Hard to duplicate that in the gym, or during home exercises. As I've transitioned to mostly desk work, I can't maintain the energy expended, and I've added 50 pounds. The past few days, I've been working some construction projects working hard again, and I feel it in the morning..it is SO hard to get everything moving again! But my weight is dropping faster, testament to the exercise component of this formula. I will transition to field work again this fall, the mostly sedentary lifestyle just makes me feel bad. Enough!
