Bread and bread
I need some help/suggestions. I love good bread. I actually dislike white bread. However, that "love good bread" is a problem for me.:( I crave it and I eat too much of it. It becomes a snack choice, and it's resulting in my going being my RDI because I will add one or two servings of bread during the day when I don't need it. (I eat whole grain breads, multiseed breads and so on, so they are "healthy" but more than I should be eating.) Any suggestions on how I can get out of this?:?:

"Cheat food" ... What's would be your Ultimate Freebie food? You could have as much as you
"Cheat food" ... What's would be your Ultimate Freebie food? You could have as much as you wanted, and It wouldn't have any negative effects? Let's have fun w/ this... You can pick anything you want, but you can ONLY have ONE.
Oh dear! What a choice. I think it would have to be a tossup between Swiss Orange Chocolate ice cream from Husky Deli in West Seattle and Theo Chocolate Coconut Curry Milk Chocolate bar. Of course since I have become lactose intolerant, I can't do the ice cream (oddly enough, I CAN:) do the chocolate bar!)

Soreness/Pain after working out
My trainer isn't having me stretcha and since I have been a vegetarian for the past year, he doesn't know what to tell me. He wants me to eat more protein but has no idesas. Thank you all for the good advice.
There are so many ways for vegetarians to get proteins into their diets (I'm not a vegetarian, but sometimes eat that way as a change). If you are not vegan (meaning NO animal products), then look into adding more dairy and eggs. There are also grains and grain-like foods that are helpful. Soy is the obvious one, but look into making meals using mixed whole grains, and things like quinoa (pronounced "keen-wah"). Of course make sure you eat a balance, and keep your fluids up. Doing slow stretches after exercise is always a good idea.

Scales
Does anyone know why scales say a different thing when you have them on a carpet and when you have them on wood floor/tiles - or am I the only person who has this problem?!
Most scale manufacturers will tell you specifically to place the scale on a hard surface. Carpets are uneven surfaces, they can be softer in one spot than another, so the scale can shift when you step on it. It can throw the balance mechanism off so you will not get accurate readings.:)

I must be very fluffy or something
"Onederland" is my new favorite word! That is so great! 2 more lbs and I will join you
I like "Onederland" too, it's from Biggest Loser (at least that's where I first heard it). And I'm about 2 pounds from there myself! :) Right now I wear a size 20 jean; my weight is mostly hips and butt (and some tummy too). I'm hoping to be close to goal (145) by my 60th birthday, just over 11 months away. But good going to everyone!

Another great walk
I went out today with one of my walking buddies from Craig's List (I posted an ad a couple of weeks ago looking for someone to go walking with and got 2 good responses). We try to meet twice a week, and go for however long we can. Today was about 40 minutes, and we were lucky—it rained last night, but for most of today it was a wonderful Seattle early spring day. Clear air, some clouds in the sky, high 50's. We walk along the Alki area, which is one of my favorite places. You look out over Elliot Bay to Seattle, and it was a really nice view. Lots of birds about, fun to see the crows and seagulls squabbling over food. I was very glad to get out. I am going slow; I did sign up for the 15 minutes a day, 21 day challenge here, and so far, so good. I am doing at least 15 minutes a day, and I'm glad I have walking partners.:)

And Once Again Into the Breech
And that should be "the actual line" not "the actually line" *sigh* Thanks everyone for your responses and encouragement. I think right now I need to just work on me. I am dropping suggestions and so on my husband's way, but I can't let myself get hung up on whether he joins me.

And Once Again Into the Breech
I can't resist any longer. The quote is "once more unto the breach", where breach means gap, as in the gap in the wall of the city of Harfleur. Breeches are trousers. So this topic is pretty much about going into trousers. I'm so sorry; I know I'm a terrible pedant. But it's FUNNY!!
You're not a pedant! I should have caught that misspelling myself! ARGH!:p I do know what the actually line is, of course, I was paraphrasing for myself. But I still should have spelled "breach" correctly!

Food allergies, especially onion
Les beat me to the suggestion of leeks. The only other thing I can see is making 2 different meals on for him and one for yourself, which would be an incredible pain but it might help.
Hi Pixie: I do the separate meal thing too, but we try to figure out meals we both like and can eat (for example I do eat chicken and use sauces with onion). We may have to try leeks; I am familiar with them and he does do okay with scallions.

Food allergies, especially onion
Does he have celiac's disease, too? I'm curious.
Hi Sooki, no he definitely doesn't have Celiac. He does just fine with gluten, wheat is no problem for him.

Food allergies, especially onion
I'm on this site doing this for myself, but I do a lot of the dinner cooking in our household, and my poor husband has a huge list of food allergies. Onions are a killer for him—he likes onion but can no longer eat them, they will literally put him in the hospital:shock: as happened a few years ago. So I am hoping someone can suggest a good substitute for onion in all those recipes that call for onion. He cannot have onion in any form, including cooked, raw, onion powder, onion salt, dehydrated onion. He has no problem with garlic (a definite blessing, we both really like garlic). He's also allergic to chicken, most of what you put in a salad, some raw vegies that he does fine with cooked (carrots, tomatoes), shellfish & crab& lobster, certain fish (although tuna, halibut and salmon are fine—and we live in Seattle, so we eat a lot of salmon), soy protein, asparagus (one of my favorite vegies:( ), and other stuff. So you can see we have to do a lot of compromising and separate cooking, especially since I can eat chicken, and everything else he's allergic to. And I have my one problem, of having become lactose intolerant, so no regular dairy products (I do soy). Suggestions please!

What do you know about Sensa?
All they want is your money. All of these "miracles" and "clinically proven" diet aids, weight loss supplements and so on are ultimately a scam. I would not trust any of them. Yeah, they will give you a free trial and then if you aren't careful, a lot of these sites are set up that if you don't IMMEDIATELY cancel, you will be billed for product you may never have ordered. Don't do it. Many of these things are the same old, unproven and even harmful products repackaged under a new name. They can take something and change one ingredient and claim it's a new fantastic aid. Stay away, don't waste your time or money on this (and quite possibly your health!) Have you ever noticed that most of these products have fine print referring to "with a diet and exercise program" or something similar? Even if Sensa doesn't include that, the old saying still applies "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

And Once Again Into the Breech
Hi everyone. I rather stumbled on this site and it just seems to be well organized and have so many options I decided to join. I've been through the try to lose weight and increase exercise routine I don't know how many times. (I've tried WW at least 5 times and never completely succeeded.) I know part of it is that my husband and I are mutual enablers. We both like food, we both take comfort and rewards as food, and we both have many issues that seem to come out with our "love" of food. Yes, portion control is a huge issue, and quick solutions, and so on and so on. Neither of us takes well to exercise (unless of course we're doing something else that just happens to include some walking or whatever). Anyway, I've been somewhat inspired by watching The Biggest Loser (which my husband refuses to watch), and I even considered trying to get on the show, but thought about it and realized: (1) I don't want to send in a video and (2) I really don't want to work quite that hard! But it's still an inspiration, and one of the things it shows is people getting to know themselves and accept that they are GOOD ENOUGH. And then there was this past Monday. I got what I am referring to as my "heart scare." I was woken up about 6:30 a.m. with pain in my left arm, and a bit of chest pain or tightness. I got up, thinking maybe I had slept "funny" or one of my cats had been sleeping on my arm (there are 3 of them and sometimes all 3 will sleep on me). But this pain was different, and it did not go away after I got up and moved around. Long story short, got my husband to drive me to the emergency room had EKGs, they gave me sublinqual nitro which did not relieve the pain, then after a consult with the cardiologist, he decided he wanted to do an angiogram even though there was anything of great concern on either of the EKGs. Luckily I am well educated in medical procedures, so I was not too freaked out. Everything went fine, my heart is actually in very good shape (major relief), kinda cool seeing the videos of my heart working. Had to stay in the hospital until around 10 p.m. because there is a long recovery from doing the angiogram (has to do with putting a catheter into an artery—always a bleeding risk, and they also put you on a blood thinner before the procedure.) Uck. I was glad to get home and go to bed (my back doesn't like being flat with nothing under the lower part; I was very uncomfortable and quite happy when they finally let me get up and walk). So the good news is I am okay, heartwise, but I am using this as my real wakeup call. Went out and bought a scale today, and am going to try to "get real" about the shape I'm in and what I need to do. Your advise, support and comments will be appreciated. And I do appreciated humor too; if we can't laugh  we aren't living.

Insulin
This also applies to people who aren't pre-diabetic or diabetic. Levelling out extreme insulin peaks and troughs is key to keeping hunger at bay, feeling good and losing weight.
